Well my monitor just died...so now i need a new but, but i have a corner desk with a tv on, and id love a pair of matching displays one for pc, one for tv/dvd player I DONT WANT A TV CARD i want the tv monitor stand alone. And monitors seem to have much better stats than normal tv displays...

So..

Is theres any reason to not use a monitor as a tv?
Is it even possible?
How do u deal with sound on the TV monitor if u do...

Or should i just get a monitor and tv, i do sit quite close to the tv i have currently tho so thought a monitor might be better for me...and ofc even 2 samsungs wont match if ones a lcd display and ones a monitor....

need some help cuz i need to get it done fast.

I noticed this one has a HDMI input, but given HDMI has sound in it to, how can that work to a monitor?

i am currently using a monitor as a tv and i don't recommend it purely becuase you can't get a remote for it. simple things like having to forever change the input from dvi to hdmi, changing volume, turning it off when using it at night all had to be done from the monitor.

Hmm i did think about that...

what i was thinking of doing is...

having a scart switch linked with various scart inputs, dvd player, sat, digi tv.

Have that scart split into composite...

Have the composite Converted to HDMI and linked to the monitor.

Now i dont need to switch from DVI to HDMI on it unless im by the pc, so that doesnt matter, the controllers for the tv tuner/sky/dvdplayer will control everything once its switched on...and i can use a plug power switch off to switch it off at night.

Waht bugs me is, LCD tvs are worse stats for more money...seems silly to get one..

OR i might go for a

both the same monitors one with a controller and tuner...

that would give me idntical screens but one with the tv ability...

question is would in ppl opinion is be silly to have a 22 inch when 24 inches are around a lot more how valuable is that extra 2 inches?

Apart from the obvious ones like lack of a remote control, monitors are designed to work at 60Hz and many of them give a jerky, stuttering picture when fed the 50Hz output from 'TV type' equipment.

Composite is analogue, HDMI is digital. Converting one into the other is not something you can do with a 2 quid adapter!

Using a monitor as a TV is a false economy. It involves masses of faffing about, while the TV will just work and they generally use LCD technologies like IPS or VA that are more suited to 'across the room' viewing than the TN screens used in most monitors.

Problem is monitors and tv's, whilst superficially similar, are designed for two different usage scenarios.

A monitor is designed for using in a desktop scenario. This means they will not be as bright as a TV, and the colours will not be as saturated.

A TV on the other hand is meant for viewing from a distance, so conversely will be brighter, and to make the picture more exciting, a touch over-saturated (out of the box anyway).

As another poster mentioned, the remote control issue is also problematic.
