asking for pics could bring on some bad accusations due to age so i wont lol, but are you sure your not skinny ?

if you have a belly (possibly caused by body storing fat because it thinks your stranded withut food and are soon going to waste away soon) and only weigh 5st the rest of you must be stick thin

last night I had an orange, an apple, 15 strawberries, a banna and yet I was still hungry.

I haven't read all of this thread so apologies if this has been covered but I doubt it from reading what I'd read on the first page! :p

It sounds to me like you need to eat a better breakfast? I had a close look at the mueslis on sale recently and was shocked at how many of them had large amounts of salt and sugar in them. Get a good muesli and this will give you load of good fibre and a plenty of slow release energy to help you through your day without the sugar crash that comes from the fast burn energy you get from most cereals out there. This will help stop your body craving more food at the end of the day.

I'm speaking from some experience here. :(

What the OP needs is to get a few decent medium-rare rump steaks down him and quit moaning! If he feels that he's not eating enough then it's his own fault for choosing to be a vegetarian.

Give up your vegetarianism, its not natural & can't be that great for you. (All the veggie guys i know look scrawny)

Stop worrying about your 'figure'.

Start eating as much as your body wants.

Keep doing regular exercise.

It is possible for people to have fat when they are light, it depends on your bone structure. I've always had quite a bit of fat in certain places, even at my thinnest when my wrists were pretty much just bone. At my smallest, I was around a size 6, and I still had a tummy.

Well, I eat quorn products, which have soya protein, but not too much, because atm I'm trying to stay away from processed foods

this is an extremely unhealth Attitude. in trying to eat healthy you're going to make yourself very Ill.

EAT MORE PROTEIN! FORGET ABOUT NOT EATING "PROCESSED FOODS" EAT EVERYTHING!

I have found on the occasions when I enjoy a veggie friendly meal (usually when I am out) that I do get hungry quite quickly after eating. I think (for me at least) that the food in your tummy is broken down so quickly that you feel hungry again.

I wouldnt worry about a pot belly. you will loose it.

try eating more carb based foods, veggie pasta etc.

I had the best butternut squash filled with goopy stuff the other day. fantastic.
next morning though, I was starving like I hadn't eaten dinner for 2 nights on the trot.

and your 14...worry about the belly when you get to your mid-late 20s when it is linked to too much beer and pizza :)

I don't think he started the thread for ignorant people to attack his beliefs in an attempt to make themselves feel better about their own life choices :)
He sounds likes he's well on his way to an eating disorder, so it's really not very helpful.

Telling someone with a possible eating disorder to change their diet?

Disgusting!

5 stone at 14 for a young lad is unbelievable!

Screw the belly as that can be sorted with excercise and healthy eating.

I would concentrate on bulking up a bit first! My advice: eat slabs of lard until desired weight is achieved.

It is as natural or unnatural as eating meat but realistically this thread isn't about debating the health impact of vegetarianism. It is about the OP being potentially underweight and asking for advice about it, perhaps he is vegetarian for religious reasons so simply saying to eat meat is not an option.

However I'd agree with the rest of your post, eat a balanced and healthy diet, do exercise and if worried go see a doctor.

However it is important he realises that by being a vegetarian. He needs to plan what he eats to get everything the body needs. Perfectly doable but much harder. Something a lot of vegetarians don't do and as such lack certain minerals and vitamins.

*Same can be said about people who eat oven chiips everyday.

Are you sure your belly isn't bloated like a famine victim?

I did a lot of growing between 14 - 16 and was always small as a child but I was at least 2-3 stone heavier than that.

The sooner you drop the vegetarian act and start eating a full and unrestricted diet the better. Your body desperately needs all the nutrients it can get at this point in your life.

If I was more sensitive, then that statement could incite anorexia

Shut up.

Also, try to eat a balenced healthy meal and try to return to a more reasonable weight. Your body will be consuming everything you throw at it soon. I would suggest eating as much as a 'full' adult eats every day and eating often.

Do you eat breakfast? If not, you should.

When I was 14 wasen't concerned with my weight at all

Ditto.

Mate, just eat, play and enjoy school. Your body is currently in a state of flux developing from a boy to a man. This might take another 10 years and it's a slow process. You will broaden up, that pot belly will go, though with an excessive amount of bread and fruit it may well cause bloating like that. You're too young to be taking protein supplements IMO but you need to source some forms of protein they are the building blocks of muscle. However your body with the surge of hormones it'll have at the moment won't deal with them in the same way they do with me.

Don't worry about it, don't be so conscious, and it probably looks worse to you than it probably really does. IF your doc says you're ok and you don't believe him get a second opinion but don't become obssessed over it.
