teams locations really make little difference these days
when you are getting a million pound a season (or more) you can live where you like and shop where you like
Owen has been at Newcastle years but deosnt live locally
if you pay them enough they will play for you..and everything else will come to them..even in england you are only an hours flight from the capital..and you can afford to fly anywhere when you get 50 grand a week
people come to the premiership for the cash simple as that..they make their money and live a life of luxury afterwards
all you have to do is prove to the player you can stop in the league and they will sign
Man Utd have always had trouble attracting the big stars from abroad simply because of their location (or thats what has previously been stated)
Ronaldinho turned us down because of the location, I think Robben did aswell (althought the 2nd might have been a fubar by Kenyon) - I believe there have been other instances also even though I cant recollect who right now
Admittedly these were before the megabucks available now, but evne then they would have been on more than 50k a week
Thats the one big benefit Arsenal and Chelsea have in attracting big stars from other leagues, they love being based in the centre of London
Yep, that would be my preferred combo too. We have 2 top strikers. Saha can't be trusted for a season, Manucho doesn't have a permit and Campbell still isn't ready to step up (but makes a great sub)..
Ive been saying that for months
I personally dont think Benzema was ever an option this summer (would be a fab player no doubt, but Lyon where never going to let him go in 2008)
At this rate we will be lucky with one striker to come in (to be fair to SAF/Gill, it does sound like we have tried to at least get a few other clubs interested in selling and just been unsuccessful)
Edit - Has Manucho's permit request actually been turned down as I thought Man Utd applied late July?(I still dont think he would be an automatic starter, but would be worth a few sub appearances)
