All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Marseille have agree'd to loan Cisse to sunderland :o

just seen this, as a Toon fan I'm slightly worried, although the rest of their team minus gordon is a bit pants, Cisse could easily fire them up the table, or worse beat us in the derby

That said I'm a bit gutted we didn't nab him on loan, could use a striker on loan for cover, suppose he wanted regular footy though

We should have gone all out to get Benzema, I wouldn't mind us getting Sergio Aguero as well

Yep, that would be my preferred combo too. We have 2 top strikers. Saha can't be trusted for a season, Manucho doesn't have a permit and Campbell still isn't ready to step up (but makes a great sub).

That to me makes me believe, in our system of playing two up top, that we need 2 strikers, not just the one we've been looking at.

teams locations really make little difference these days

when you are getting a million pound a season (or more) you can live where you like and shop where you like

Owen has been at Newcastle years but deosnt live locally

if you pay them enough they will play for you..and everything else will come to them..even in england you are only an hours flight from the capital..and you can afford to fly anywhere when you get 50 grand a week

people come to the premiership for the cash simple as that..they make their money and live a life of luxury afterwards

all you have to do is prove to the player you can stop in the league and they will sign

Zenit are reporting that they set a deadline of the 18th for Spurs to make an "appropriate" bid for Arshavin and they did not. The club says that the matter is now closed.

Man Utd have always had trouble attracting the big stars from abroad simply because of their location (or thats what has previously been stated)

Ronaldinho turned us down because of the location, I think Robben did aswell (althought the 2nd might have been a fubar by Kenyon) - I believe there have been other instances also even though I cant recollect who right now

Admittedly these were before the megabucks available now, but evne then they would have been on more than 50k a week

Thats the one big benefit Arsenal and Chelsea have in attracting big stars from other leagues, they love being based in the centre of London

Ive been saying that for months :)

I personally dont think Benzema was ever an option this summer (would be a fab player no doubt, but Lyon where never going to let him go in 2008)

At this rate we will be lucky with one striker to come in (to be fair to SAF/Gill, it does sound like we have tried to at least get a few other clubs interested in selling and just been unsuccessful)

Edit - Has Manucho's permit request actually been turned down as I thought Man Utd applied late July?(I still dont think he would be an automatic starter, but would be worth a few sub appearances)

I think the mods should ban the word 'Saha' in sports arena. He has nothing to do with football or in fact sports of any kind unless lying on a treatment table is now considered a skilled sport, of which he would be champion of the world. He's a complete non player to me, he's not an option for us, and I wish Ferguson would see it that way. Not the good old 'Saha is returning to some form of fitness which gives us options, Louis is an excellent player when fit, blah blah blah', Fergie I think you forgot that he doesn't play for us. He's 30 years old now, been with us for 4 years, started less than a quarter of our games in that time, youth team players think he is a physio with the amount of time he spends in the medical department. There goes Doctor Saha again lads.

He actually infuriates me. As you all can probably tell. Time to offload him.

But as he said people will travel if they need to. Heck Robbie Fowler was flying from Liverpool to Cardiff for training via private helicopter... according to some sources anyway.

Even on 50 - 100K a week, Im not sure a lot of people would fly around a foreign country to training and back. Even if they were the pilot themselves.

Yeah for days off thats one thing, not for living in a different city an hour or two flight time away

out of the 100's of English players (just covering the people familiar with the country for the time being) in the last 5 years in the EPL you can probably count the number of players on one hand who fly to training, I just dont think its a realistic option thats all (if footballers are ever realistic :D)

I just dont think that would even be considered by a big name player coming into the country for the first time (and probably only a very few naturalised players)

Haha (pun intended) :)
