On BBC website, interesting news piece about a 21 year old that used a 'normal' amount of some steroid (doesn't say what).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7575024.stm

Quite why this person would have been using 'roids for such a period to get the body he had I don't know (any of many mental disorders could be the case).

Why continue and not just jump straight onto PCT when it started getting bad? Silly idiot misusing giving others a bad rep.

The idea that under 100k are on 'roids is well out imo.

Do you think more or less users Morba? I work in an area where steroid use is probably more common than average over the country. We certainly have about 10 people who are 'out' users when they see me in the surgery, and I suspect there will be a great deal more who don't admit to it. That's with a list size of about 6k. The ones who admit it are almost all the older guys and a few ex competitors who now use to try and maintain their physique that little bit longer even though they have no intention of competing anymore.

That looks just plain nasty. You'd have to question why he didn't stop or at least seek medical advice long before it got to that stage, it's quite clearly taken a long time to get to that stage and you can't believe anyone would think it was normal or healthy. I know the saying "no pain no gain" but you've got to be a bit of a div to let it get to that stage.

I've seen a few guys at the gym that were on them. I heard from a friends brother whos a Doctor (dont know weather it is true or not) that people from black descent have genetics that allow them to be/become more muscley quicker and easier than white people.

Both of these guys by chance were black. It to me seemed obvious for a couple of reasons:

First guy:
wore long sleeve t-shirts, which still made him look ridiculously ripped.
Bad acne on his face (perhaps the sleeves to cover it up on his arms, and track marks from injections.)
His body was out of proportion, his head looked like a pea sat on over developed shoulders.
He wasn't really doing a lot when ever I saw him there.

Second guy:

He did look really good, but you could see track marks on his arms, and again he didnt seem to be training that hard. It just looked unacheivable to be that big with such little effort all the time.

I could be wrong, and they could just of had off days when ever I saw them!

I'm not assuming that just taking steroids with no work will make you bigger, it wont, because you have to working bloody hard and then start taking them. Nor am I accusing every black man with muscles to be on steriods! :p

There's a handful of guys (the stereotypical group of posers who rotate on the same machines/weights for ages and are amazingly rude to everyone else) at my gym who I am certain are on steroids, not least because they all have chests the size of the Colosseum, but legs like snooker cues. I'm even certain one of the personal trainers is on them, too. He's just too big to not be. Two of the others are amazingly ripped, but I don't suspect them to be on, but wouldn't be surprised if they are.

There are loads of people on 'roids, I am certain that number in the article is way way below the actual numbers.

I would definitely say its lower than expected. Just look at the many many online forums, there are loads of people admitting to using, there are loads of people who read those forums who do not admit to it.
While a lot might not be injecting, i bet they are forgetting to include people on things like DBol etc.

If a guy has track marks on his arms it's not from taking steroids. Steroids are NOT injected into veins, there shot into muscle usually the glute or quads are most common injection sites.

Regarding the opening post, the guy's an idiot. The guy had a extreme reaction but carried on. It's like taking any other type of medication, if you get a bad reaction you stop, simple as.

Also I agree Morba, that estimation is way out, I think it's a lot higher tbh.

Out of interest, how on earth does one get steroids? You can't just walk up to a pharmacist and say "I'll have two packets of durex, some aspirin, that funky looking toothbrush, oh and some anabolic steroids please".

Incidentally, I took steroids when I was 10-11 to cure a rather serious bronchial infection. I've since had it confirmed that it probably took a good few inches off my height, which given that I'm seriously into rowing is pretty crap :(.

Did anyone else see that episode of American Chopper where (I forget his name) an ex Yank Footballer and Film star was visiting the shop to promote his anti-steroid campaign? He was a user himself and has had heart problems I think. Anyway, he said that in the US the most common user of steroids is 16-20 year old girls, which surprised me a bit. "To get the toned look" was the most common answer.

Good few inches? How has that been confirmed?

Obviously I cant give links to places you can get steroids, but you can get them. Some places are more known and more reliable than others. Anyone thinking about a cycle should seriously do some research of their own, both into how and why.
Steroids can be used perfectly fine with few sides, it can also be abused like any other drug.

They arent illegal over there, its quite shocking. BB magazines are full of adverts for roids!
