All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Hleb was incredible at times, he might not have had an eye for goal but he definitely did a great job in other areas .....granted he had a poor finish to the season but he wasn't alone there either.

both of them are going to cost us quite big, you could see it in the emirates cup and the first league game ....i fear this season lol.

Indeed Hleb was incredible at times last season. At times he did what was required going forward brilliantly, and when doing it epitomised Wenger's beautiful football. However the fact that his attacking football and end product weren't replicated often enough and his defending wasn't great....all I'm saying is that he's replaceable.

It's good that in a situation where we're tight for money we made a healthy profit on him. Plus it's now time for Theo to start playing more first team games.

I better say now then, I don't think Sunderland will go down but they won't make the top half.

If they finish higher than you did last season thats going to be a good season for them, aslong as they are progressing.
You cant say keanes bought rubbish this year, obviously last year he had to get who he could and it paid off, now he can offload them and hes attracted some decent players from other clubs.
Malbranque and Diouf should keep them afloat, as will Cisse if he stays fit.

Agree with whoever said they needed a decent CM to pull the strings, definately.

As long as Newcastle finish ahead of them I'm not that bothered. :p

Althouugh seeing them relegated AGAIN, would be quite nice.

Are you from London and live in liverpool?

I think its amusing everyone raves about Keane but Southgate is doing a much better job at a smaller club spending less money, arguably harder to attract players and playing some fantastic entertaining football

You should be finishing in Europe with your wage bill.

Sunderland should be finishing ahead of us, with the money they've spent.

As much as it pains me to say it, he's right.

Hleb's defending was actually very underrated. He always tracked back and gave 100%, and I also remember reading a stat that revealed he won far more tackles than he didn't, and was quite often the player to win the ball back for us. In terms of wingers, you won't find many better at defending. Look at Walcott for example, absolutely clueless in that area.

I'm still very gutted we lost both Hleb and Flamini, and I don't see how anyone can be happy about losing either. Nasri is a cracking player but he's been here 5 minutes and is already suffering from injuries which is the last thing we need. Hleb was sturdy and reliable. If both Flamini and Hleb had stayed, with the additions of Nasri, Vela, Ramsey and Silvestre, I think we'd have a pretty good squad capable of winning the Premiership. As we are now I think we are weaker than last season, and being totally honest I can't see us getting anywhere near the Premiership. Our wings still worry me too. Eboue is crap and Walcott isn't quite ready IMO. He's been absolutely dire in the last 3 or so games. One long-term injury to Nasri and we could see Eboue and Walcott on our wings for an extended period of time which would be a disaster. Wenger is talking about one more signing, which will almost certainly be a central midfielder (if it happens at all) but I still think we could do with one more quality winger.

i agree pretty much entirely :) we are going backwards ....overall we aren't any stronger and still lack depth.

RvP and Rosicky will always be strong contenders for the "Anderton" trophy and Nasri doesn't look like he will go a campaign w/out some time on the sidelines either.....i don't and never have rated Walcott, we all know Eboue doesn't have a brain but i'm not so sure Walcott is far superior in that department, he looks half a champion once in a blue moon and clueless the rest of the time.....until he gets a lot more consistency i'm not convinced.

i just pray we can get Xabi, that would at least sort out the middle.

laughs - good retreat there :)

( I think you were one saying they would be relegated - if not then apologies)

Admiitedly you have had little to spend over the years (esp in comparison to the £££ Keane has been throwing around) but you should also have learnt from your experience and be up with Everton / Pompey rathre than in the 10-15 bracket after all the years you have been in the Premiership
