All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Im not sure Hobbs is ready or ever will be for us. San Jose's more likely to break through but i'd still wouldn't feel 100% confident with him.

Like i said, £2.5m is a good offer but we don't need to sell him and for that much we can't get a replacement of his level. We saw last season that all it takes is 1 of our cb's to pick up a long-term injury and if 1 of the others picks up a small knock or suspension and you're having to play a kid is what could be an important game.

Before Skrtel came in and looked so good I would have agreed with you. Fact is though we have three first choices for that role even without Sami, a kid breaking through and Arbeloa willing to drop in there. How are the likes of Hobbs ever going to be the next Carra if they only play for friendlies and reserves? £2.5m isn't chicken feed for someone that old with a 12 month contract.

The Northeast is a small area of the UK often overlooked, yet their 3 major teams are all well within the top 15 teams in the entire country.

Considering only the top 17 teams stay in the Premiership and the North East produced 12th, 13th and 15th that isn't a particularly accurate statement. Based on recent performances you have two lower mid sides and a relegation battler.

That said I think two of the three are looking better for this season, have to see about Newcastle :)

The bottom line is, all 3 Northeast teams suck, and we just like to have banter with each other

I wouldn't go that far. Only London and the North West are more successful areas in footy terms (with Birmingham close behind). There are far worse areas in the country for football. The whole of Wales is in our league system and can't manage a single top flight team :D

Hobbs isn't ready to play in the first team and i doubt he'll ever be good enough for us (San Jose's more likely and it's going to be very difficult for him too) and Arbeloa can't play cb. Selling Hyypia would leave us with 3 cb's who can be trusted and we saw last season that 3 is not enough.

From a financial perspective, £2.5m for Hyypia considering his age and contract length is a great offer but it makes no sense from a footballing perspective. Why weaken our squad for the sake of £2.5m?

What's wrong with it? Thought some specs might help when trying to get assistance and it is under 500 characters.

I did see a rumour that Milan might be after him instead but I think that is just journalists being mischevious rather than anything else or have Milan seen something that everyone else has missed?

Serie A is a much much slower paced league than the Premiership, and Sendeos has proved in Europe, where the pace is generally much slower, that he can cope just fine.

Despite his blunders and the reputation he's built, Senderos is actually capable of some stunning defensive displays and has put on many in the past. Unfortunately he's not the fastest or most mobile, and he's quite weak mentally.

Serie A would suit him. I could see him being a hit over there definitely.

Hobbs is OK, Arbeloa is OK. We clearly can't afford wages / transfer fees to get anyone recognised quality in a single wing position, so I would say expecting to have cover for two cb's out without scraping the barrel a little is unrealistic. Man U have just got rid of their 4th choice cover (Silvestre) after Ferdinand, Vidic and Brown. Chelsea are supposedly losing theirs (Ivanovic) after Terry, Carvalleo and Alex. Arsenal have only just brought in a third choice. We are the only team with four good names in that position.

Ouch, I wouldn't wish that on him. Why limit him by being the 'next Carragher', at least label him the next John Terry or Rio Ferdinand.

lol @ the north east banter in here, trash talking at it's finest, did all this kick off just because I posted keano had spent near 70million?!

It's like shooting ducks in a barrel :p

I mean Liverpool's belief that they could win the Premiership is consistently mocked and given our record some would say rightly so. Newcastle actually think they are nearly up there with us, LOL. Sunderland are building a complete team out of all the players who failed to cut the mustard at the top, spending a fortune doing so and somehow are also putting together one of the most controversial squads ever seen. Middlesborough was arguably responsible for McClown getting a shot at England manager, and are now run by the National Teams greatest ever sh**house.

;)

I said the teams are well within the top 15 in the country, they finished 12th, 13th and 15th, but my statement wasn't accurate? Were they in the top 15 teams in the country or not?

Having watched him play, it is fair to say he has a far better chance of making his way through hard work and commitment than through football flair, hence Carra is a far more realistic target :)
