E9x M3 is now below £35K

I would not buy any performance car or expensive car without a warranty. If a 911 or Boxster goes wrong in a big way which they can do it will be expensive to put right. I wouldn't buy one without an official Porsche Warranty as I feel the risk is too high. I never had to use mine on my GT3 for anything more major than a door motor for the window and radio but I still wouldn't consider not having a warranty.

Looks like servicing /consumables on even a Boxster S is substansially above that of my 330Ci, the Boxster dosen't look like it's much cheaper to run than the 911!

How much is the Porsche warranty, and what doesn't it cover?

Porsche Warranty is around £900 if I remember correctly. You can get one added to any Porsche under I think 10 years of age and with less than 150K miles. Taking a Porsche into an OPC and getting the 111 point check done will mean they can give you a full OPC Warranty which covers most of the major stuff, though like all warranties there are one or two small exclusions, but get to know your dealer and these can often be worked around.

Boxster and 911 do have similar running costs as they share many bits.

a bmw thread and no fox??!?!

the main problem here, and its already been talked about is fuel costs and woeful MPG. almost everyone is thinking about down sizing, normal joe public dont even want 2litre 4pots anymore let alone V8s!

:(

Nevermind...

What goes wrong to justify a £900 warranty on a Boxster? I figured the 911 would be a different league...

It's funny, unleaded went up to 120p and everyone has been going mad, it's since dropped below 110p and nobody has mentioned it!

Like all these things its a risk/reward decision. If you never use it you have lost money but if an engine goes bang, a gearbox has a failiure, you have an RMS issue or a collection of niggly issues they can soon add up to well over the cost of the Warranty.

Cheers... :)

What's RMS?

Definatly not a surprise! Though some of the the E46 prices are still too high, more and more are coming down too.

Z4M's dropped like a stone - the Z4M Coupe is actually getting close to the Z4 3.0 for some reason, price wise. A couple of random internet car nuts I've spoken too have driven both and preferred the 3.0 to the M, even more so if you include the price difference.

Maybe thats why.

Still, as mentioned anything with a big engine is taking a massive price hammering. I was looking at VXR8's yesterday (big 6l V8) and there's a 2007 model up for £22k - brand new base price was £35k. Ouch!

I'm after an RS4 myself - hoping that next year some of the early ones that start dropping out of warranty will be moving close to 25k....
