Canon 50D

Yeah your right the grip does offer faster fps. I didn't think it did.

Sounds like a con to buy the grip if you ask me unless the camera REALLY demands more power to shoot at higher FPS.

Not sure about the Canon grips but some third party grips give reduced fps when shooting with the AA battery pack so I think high fps needs high power/current

A couple of sample images from Canon Japan:

ISO1600 as above:

ISO400:

to me the 1600 shot looks pretty good, but the ISO 400 shot has quite a bit of chroma noise in the shadows, although it is an 8sec exposure.

i may be tempted to move from my 40d, the lens micro adjustment sounds good , hope its included. Its only money, and i like to have the new model.

The 20d can still take good pics, but i like to change

Thats disappointing, I was hoping Canon could put some pressure on Nikon so I could get a price cut on a D300. :(

Yup, I'm disapointed as well. Same AF system as the 40D and buffer handles one less RAW shot in a burst. Awesome!

The only good thing in the spec list is potentially better ISO performance, micro AF adjustment and the grip / batteries are the same.

Canon, you really are shooting yourself in the foot.

I dont think they are shooting themselves in the foot, they will price it probablly £200-300 cheaper than the nikon d300.

Only thing i wish it had more was 8fps, i like the lens micro adjustment.

Cant say im bothered about more focus points, not had a problem with my 20d,30d,40d focusing etc.

I think i will get one.

Note that burst depth doesn't drop when High ISO Noise Reduction is enabled, except when the Strong option is selected.

Also note that the CIPA standard for stating frame rate is a little tighter than the standard used by some or all camera makers previously, such that the 40D's 6.5 fps stated frame rate is actually 6.4 fps under the new CIPA guidelines. It's unlikely there will be any practical difference between the 50D's 6.3 fps and the 40D's 6.4 fps.

It's got 50% more resolution and you complain about one less raw shot?
