Starring out swear words.....

Is there a list of words that aren't allowed?

I wouldn't want to inadvertently slip a penis in where it wasn't wanted.

Yes, but often the agumement is about FULLY STARING out the word. In some cases the extension on the end of the word seems to be allowed, in other cases not. I suppose it all depends on the context.

No it doesn't. Whenever I've seen a moderator tell someone off for not fully starring it out they're referring to a case where they leave a letter or two of the actual word (not ing/er etc) unstarred.

What i don't understand is why the swearwords aren't just put into the filter, i mean t.e.h is in the filter. Just seems silly I've been suspended before for saying a word for wee starting with a backwards q. It's incredibly hard to know what is classed as a swearword here just use the filters.

****'s
****er
****ing

I am sure some variations on this are/have been allowed.

In the last thread about what you could get away with I got told off by Gilly for putting the word "mother" before one of those. I've seen it used since by other people more than a few times without any censorship, so just goes to show when it comes down to it it depends entirely on the attitude of the don at the time.

I agree. I can't swear at work, especially to customers / employees but I seem to manage just fine - why people can't do that on here is beyond me.

I know......... worst scenario is when the customer you are dealing is annoyed and is using all manor of language on yourself....... in those circumstances I feel myself rising way above them

well in my eyes a swear word is something that is deemed offensive

to be offensive you need to be offensive to someone therefore to direct offensiveness to them

so to direct a swear word to someone would be (and I'll star out the word for forum rules sake)

"**** you"

I wouldnt class the starred out word offensive if it was

"these ****ing bagels are awesome!".

but thats my opinion :p

OK Zefan, I'll take your word for it.

I thought I had seen posts arguing over this in the past, maybe I was wrong.

why swear? restrain yourself, instead of saying "this forum is ****", why not say "this forum is poor", and then offer ways of improvement to the forum?
The said phrase was completely spontaneous and is in no way trying to imply anything

well its used for exaguration. when your falling of a cliff or getting shot at you dont go

"woooooeep!"

You might've done, but that must've been a long time ago (over a year)!

rofl no way. I'm pretty sure it was q1 of this year when the ****ed ****ing etc was only just accepted as 'ok'.

Tbh, if swearing is banned because it is 'offensive' then you can have the same impact with stars, and if anything its more offensive e.g. "you're a ****" Now if swearwords were allowed then that could only be one insult, but with stars, it can be many insults.
