Crysis Warhead - Gone Gold

Haha Crysis isn't about who can twitch the fastest. And are you really trying to say that 99% of console games are not running "smooth" and that they're "struggling"?

He prolly is, and tbh I am too.
Console games don't play so well as games on pc, whether this is due to the framerate, the controller or the TV, I don't know, but it feels much faster on pc.

But the only games I've tried on ( a modern) console were MGS4, GTA IV, CoD4 and Soul Calibur 4 though...
So I could only compare cod4 well game to game...

One of the main reasons console games get away with lower frame rates is the fact that game pads don't feel as... 'attached' to the game as a mouse does. While GTA4 was playable with its utterly dire frame rates on the PS3/360 i imagine it just wouldn't have worked when you could so accurately control Niko as you would be able to with a mouse. When the frame rate suffers on the PC you can feel it because you are far more in control... if you get what i mean.

[EDIT] What is a shame is the fact that the game play in Crysis lent itself so perfectly to high reaction twitch game play, shooting someone then sprinting to and jumping over a foe then grabbing him and chucking him into a shack? Utterly fantastic game play but unfortunately not as fluid as i would like it to be on anything other than medium/low settings on my computer. I can't wait to replay it on hardware that costs bugger all but outperforms everything around today, crysis at a constantly high frame rate would play SO well.

Console games also feel smoother overall as they are usually locked at 30FPS.

On PC, if you are getting over 50 most the time, then dip to the 30's it suddenly feels very rough.

Well, Crysis actually feels very smooth at 30 however, heck even 25+ is smooth on Crysis, on UT3 however even 40FPS is DIRE!

I think it also has to do with distance to screen. When I play on a TV from several feet away, a drop in FPS does not really bother me when I notice it, but on PC I am a lot more sensitive to lower frame rates or frame rate drops.

Crysis I find very playable at 30 and over, but as soon as it drops under 30 I can feel it (though admittedly is more noticeable with crossfire for some reason). Assassins Creed on PC I need the frame rate to go no lower than mid 30's or it really bothers me.

At the end of the day, everybody is different and sensitive to different things, so you guys can argue til you are blue in the face about smoothness and playability to certain FPS, but you will never agree - i.e. give it a rest, and accept you differences :)

You dont understand. Just because its not laggy does not mean its not struggling, if a system can only just abut put out 30fps or even average it that to my mind is struggling.

Crysis is smooth at 30fps, but the system is struggling if its only putting out 30fps and dipping down to the twenties, that is struggling.

Notice some people prefer 60fps, 100fps, yes everyone is different, but 30fps is a low framerate and shows a struggling system. Try playing COD4 at under 40fps, thats not playable IMO unless you like lag or cant even see it.

Sounds good, I liked Crysis so looking forward to this one :)

One thing, how come they claim it's "gone gold" when it hasn't sold 500k copies or even been released?

Looks cool.

I just hope the suit abilities are improved in this one.

Max armour was not much better than KPA body armor, and the suits power in general ran down jsut a little too quickly for my liking.

Also, I hope they got rid of helicopters and boats with superhuman vision that could follow you when cloaked and spot you from miles off with just a fraction of your body sticking out.

If it's not laggy (you just said yourself its smooth at 30) that means the system it producing enough frames to make the game playable. And 30 is the lowest point and running at 35 to 40 (the same framerate you just told me CoD4 feels smooth at) otherwise. So how is that struggling? Struggling to me means it can't achieve a playable framerate which it can.

That's the deffenition of struggling. Meaning it can manage something but barely.

A student that only barely scrapes through at 40% for a pass IS struggling compared to one that gets 60+%. Common sense.

The same applies to computers. If it's only barely able to reach a minimum to run and is using all of its power, it is struggling.

As far as anyone is concerned 30FPS is the pure minimum for smooth gameplay.

And a system that only gets 30fps on average is almost guarenteed to dip below that.

So it's struggling.

I also really don't care about Crysis, it's just a game. Played it, lagged. Stopped, got a different game and enjoyed it.

I'll do the same for any other game out there, if it's not running up to standards, no matter what.

It's not an engine problem that it "struggles" to produce 30FPS its the users problem, if they try and push the graphics past what their hardware can run its their own fault.

I never once said it was an engine problem.

I for one really like the engine, I also know that there is a lot of things going on.

Meaning that performance will be lower than on other games and software.

Although many people, especially those that aren't to tech savvy will be duped by the requirements on the back of games.

I also know that it's mostly Publishers that print those requirements, not games developers( mostly ).

Stalker is a good example. It's requirements on the back of the box are very high, yet people with systems lower than get smooth gameplay ( Above 30fps ).

Also to take into account is that not many people are able to upgrade a pc to be able to run new software.

The general public simply do not know how. Many even if they do know, simply don't have the funds.

There for and this is only MY opinion, crysis is mearly a benchmark for gaming.

Seems like theres gonna be plenty to play over the next couple of months.

Crysis Warhead
Stalker Clear Sky
Spore
Mercenaries 2
X3 Terran conflict
Brothers in Arms 3
