Well, having never watched the program, I got in mail an invite to apply to try and be one of the poor sods in reality tv.

I thought I'd be interesting because in my area (posh), I'm 'poor', live in a very small studio apartment with my partner, full of about 8 years worth of kidult junk, love cooking and would probably do some funky fusion dishes of my own device, oh and i can choose which wines will go well with what I cook, so that front's sorted i think.

I'll probably do this all for a laugh, as actually I abhor reality tv, especially since they choose whatever makes good tv, rather than whats sane. But,
what I want to know that if I actually do get past the application process, is what kind of wierd angles do people come from really? For me a good dinner party is where everyone sits and yaks, enjoys food + wine combination, with lulls in conversation cheerfully propped up by the picking up of one of many abovementioned kidult items before going off in complete tangents.

As I haven't watched it, I heard that ppl on the show are generally intent on winning the prize money, poke around ppl's house (not much room in mine!, plus ablative layers of kidult junk); do you think simplicity/old fashionedness can work in the show, or will I probably have to think of some outrageous persona to put on?

i love the marathon they have on sundays, always watch it. where they put the weeks 5 shows all in one sitting. :D do it and let us all know if you make it on there. :p

She likes watching the people and likes the presenter.
Me - its not my sort of thing, loads of other things i would rather be watching :]

It's hilarious for at least three different reasons:

1. There's always someone who can't cook, or doesn't understand what foods go together.
2. There's always someone who's incredibly picky/allergic to something/vegan etc. so they'll almost never be satisfied.
3. The people who can actually cook almost always try something different or above their difficulty level that they've never done before and balls it up.

If you like watching people fail then it's a fairly awesome program. :D

I seem to find myself watching this too. Fills the hole that the Brookside omnibus left.

It's a great show.
OP: Go for it, and I hope to get to laugh at the narrator's comments about you soon :p

hmm, I'm just thinking I didn't make my application wierd enough to get in now. Oh well. we'll just have to wait and see.

How is the "winner" chosen? does everyone vote? or rather do the 5 in the show vote?
or?

A vast majority of the people on it come across as incredibly bitchy, two-faced, and bigoted.

Its hilarious watching the lengths people go to winning a grand.

There's always at least one who is incredibly tight with their money and come up with laughably cheap substitutes for their menu.
