With money burning a hole in my pocket I went and forked out the £5 for Paprika.

And OMG i think it's nearly the best fiver i have ever spent! :O

For what its worth i'd highly recommend it to any anime fan.

I was wondering, given Funimation's upcoming releases of oodles of Geneon etc titles on R1 which have been out of print what people have either got pre-ordered (or plan to get) .... currently I have the following, (in no particular order):

Fate/Stay Night Collection
Kamichu Collection (double dip as my originals got a dodgy disk)
Rozen Maiden Collection
Shakugan no Shana Collection
When They Cry 1-5

with Magical Lyrical Nanoha and Zero no Tsukaima when UP list them (both currently due to a November release.

Got quite a few other things on order, (Aria, Dokuro-chan, Kanon 6, Lucky Star 3 LE, Otoboku 3, Starwberry Panic 4, Shuffle 6, Rahxephon collection, Emma season 2, Code Geass 1 LE (if they produce a playable version) etc etc etc), to so could be an expensive couple of months ....

Ah well, the first series of Black Lagoon to watch on Saturday, (unfortunately I'm working all day Sunday). Currently rewatching Maria-sama (only the third time since getting it :)) and reading the ToHeart manga.

Colossus, it's certainly one of the trippiest anime's i've seen ;)
I'm actually planning on getting the blu-ray as one of my first blu disks once I get a player as I liked it that much.

memyselfandi, I've not got a lot on order/pre-order at the moment - I'm tempted by fate/stay as I got the first disk + box, but i've got a fairly expensive month in September and i'm trying to cut back on spending.

What I have currently got on order is, from memory
Ah My Goddess! Second Season ($37 + shipping thanks to TRSI's funi sale and GA discount)
Full Metal Panic TSR complete($33 + shipping as above)
Emma Season 2
Black Lagoon Second Barrage 1*
Hellsing Ultimate 1 & 2, and 3 & 4*

I gave in and ordered the Rune Soldier thin pack the other night as i'm nearly at the end of my backlog and it was a cheap series i've wanted to see for a while

I have decided that next year i'll definitely be renewing my GA membership at rightstuff, it's saved me about £20 or so this year, not allowing for the orders it's pushed under the customs limit.

Anyone seen Otogi Zoshi?
I got the set the other day, and it took me a while to get into it, but I ended up quite enjoying the first story arc in the end, the second story arc though looks like they halved the animation budget and got the YTS lad to do some of the animation (there is one scene on disk 4 where they are sitting down and one of the main characters has a Goomba from the Mario movie style head**).

*UK releases

**Seriously, it was completely out of proportion - like someone had shrunk it.

:D I actually ordered Rune Soldier as well earlier this week as it was cheap and I saw a good review of it somewhere ....

I'm looking at getting a Blu-ray player at the moment but as it's a few hundred quid purchase I'll probably hmmm and hah about it for 6 months while spending more than that on DVDs ....

My otoboku disc 2 finally arrived through the door this morn :)
Was watching mahoromatic last night and realized that the horny teacher in this is the same VA as in Dears(must be type cast lol :D)Also one of the other male VA was the head priest in Haibane Renmei
(Why were there not any teachers like her when i was in school:mad::D)

I went the HTPC route...think i have got most of the bugs/problems i had to start with sorted now(2.5 TB on that sucka):D
Got a freesat tv downstairs now so have preordered a `popcorn hour`NMT so i will be able to watch anime previews in 1080p goodness using the `storage` upstairs(spent last weekend fitting the sat dish and running cables under the floors( that was not fun)Don`t like spiders!!

I've already got a non blu-ray htpc in the lounge (1Tb local storage + ~3Tb available via gigabit + multiple 0.5Tb externals) although I'm not too happy with the amount of noise it makes. I was looking at a multiregion chipped Panasonic BD50 to allow US and Japanese disk playback without mucking around with software and worrying about machine noise :)

Just finished watching Kujibiki Unbalance Vol. 3 ... well, to start with I am a big fan of Genshiken ... it is one of my favourite series .... but at the end of the day KU is not a great series. If they had made it more like the original OVA episodes included with Genshiken then it might of been better but the plot is rather thin and the animation is pretty poor at times. I found that I kept hoping that it would improve but it didn't really. On the upside though across the three volumes you do get three Genshiken OVA episodes which form the link across between the Genshiken series.

One thing I would say in KU's favour, I find both the opening a closing themes quite good. I really liked the Under17 track which was used with the original OVA episodes and was disappointed that it wasn't used here but these tracks have grown on me over the series.

multiregion chipped Panasonic BD50
Did not know there were multi region players out yet....me goes off to research
Dad would be interested :)
edit:£169.99 just for the mod not including the blue=ray player:eek:

Looks like it will be a while at that price

Should I be ashamed for admitting I'm trying to get ahold of the Pokemon TV show? Didn't know they made stuff post 2003, looking forward to it. :D

No you shouldn't feel ashamed admitting that, not my cup of tea but each to their own :) .... if you had said that you want to catch them all though then you would have had to feel very, very ashamed :D

Andarial, I was looking at it for £529 pre-modded.

OUCH!Although the dvd player downstairs cost £700+£50 for it to be modded back in the day
Watched `Otoboku 2 ` last night noticed that they cut out a japanese sweary? last episode i think it was where Mizuho and Mariya were walking down a school hallway
and Mizuho says something about Goldfish droppings or something similar in the `cough` version i have ,it was bleeped out with no translation on the DVD
P.S.
Been rewatching the sugar AMV that was talked about and want to know what series the 3 maids? are from(1 has red hair the other has a blue tiangle on her forehead?about 40 secs in
Also at about 34 secs in there is a schoolgirl with black hair swinging a schoolbag, this one looks so familier but i just can`t put a name to it
Any ideas? :)

Yep, my first multiregion DVD player was around that sort of price, (a Pioneer 717 if I remember correctly).

I've only seen the DVD version of Otoboku so I can't comment on that but I can say that the girl at ~34secs is from School Rumble

34 seconds in would be School Rumble, no idea about the other one.

Watched Black Lagoon this afternoon (series 1 plus the first disk of series 2) ... not bad with lots of action / violence, made a nice change from what I have been watching recently.

Also watch Origin - Spirits of the Past ... hmmmm, the first three quarters of this was quite good, the last quarter was good in places but some things were just plain stupid,
mechanised walking volcano ... don't get me started on the problems with that

I'd say both of these are worth a watch.

What would you guys recommend to someone that likes the really good mainstream stuff?

After something like GITS, Cowboy Beebop, Initial D, Death Note, Patlabor, Street Fighter, Dragonball Z, Goku Midnight Eye, Cyber City Oedo ...

And not so much like, Full Metal Alchemist, Princess Monoke, Gundam, Macross Plus, Evangelion, Perfect Blue, Sky Blue, Blade: Last Vampire, Vampire Hunter D, etc...

Not sure where the distinction lies between the two groups but I'm just after something quality, addictive, with some good dialogue, good plot, or just uber cool.

Ok most of the good stuff is out then :p

Try Eureka Seven, Chobits, Rozen Maidens or Rahxephon (50/50 on this due to not liking evangelion/gundam) for story.

As you like patlabor (I got bored with this) you will probably like appleseed, new dominion tank police and guyver.

For something uber cool then maybe ergo proxy or gilgamesh due to their different style of anime.
