All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

He's only there because you were the only club that would sign him, he is being either spectacularly naive if he thinks he is going to sign for a top four club again, or he has an agreement with another midtable club who are going to give him the transfer fee to sign for them.

He had talks with Rafa, like Baz said, but I agree, why would a top four club want him now (especially with the talent they already have.)

Put it this way, I'd much rather have Tevez or Rooney then Owen at Newcastle.

Because I'd say Rooney gives away as many fouls as he does win balls back. He's a forward yet he'd ALWAYS out of position.

Fouls stop play allowing other players to get back into position......

Not all fouls (unless they are bookable ones) are bad for the team concerned

Rooney doesnt get booked THAT often to make them that silly

If a defender or DM gave away the same fouls then I would agree with you

How often are our defensive midfielders out of position though? Very rarely. The problem is when we get the ball Rooney is 5yrds from the player with the ball and 40-50yrds out of position.

Then there are the free-kicks he gives away and our weak-point is defending set-pieces.

The fact is, Rooney gets stressed and puts stupid tackles in, dangerous tackles. He got a suspension for bookings last year and came back and nearly got another suspension for more bookings. It's ridiculous. If he didn't give stupid fouls away I wouldn't mind, but he's better off leaving that to Tevez because Tevez doesn't lose his head as easily nor does he put ridiculous tackles in our foul as much.

I think everyone knows that I believe Tevez does everything better than Rooney, and I think everyone is starting to see that now bar those fiercely loyal to Rooney or the English mentality.

Unless Rooney starts playing football instead of prancing around the pitch doing stupid things or making the wrong decisions, trying fancy football that he's not capable of, dinking in balls instead of trying to beat his man, staying in position and actually managing to stay onside when he is, then I'd seriously be thinking of selling him next summer.

It's not unusual for a players progress to slow down or stop, but to see someone actually go backwards on what he had by such a ways, especially on a player in his very early twenties, it's frightening.

The simple fact of the matter is, Rooney has zero fear factor now. Teams in the EPL and teams in Europe simply aren't afraid of him because he's so predictable in his movements and actions topped with the fact that he's so easily riled.

Am I the only person who doesn't really want Berba?

I think we'd benefit more from someone in the Ole/RVN mould - like a poacher.

No you're not the only one.

But, we do need somebody, and if he is that somebody then we'll not complain too much until we've seen how he fits in.

I agree to some extent but you said it yourself, Owen turned down Champions League football for more money at Newcastle, now he's gonna get even more, I think the top four wouldn't spend more than 60-70k a week on him, considering his injuries.

I didn't say he turned CL football down. I said he was willing to take a paycut to join us, however we weren't stupid enough to pay £17m for him. If we reached an agreement with Real for him then he'd be a Liverpool player now.

Even at £60-70k a week im sure he'd still leave Newcastle to join a top 4 side.

At a knocked down fee or on a free then i'd take a punt on him tbh. For the 1/4 of the season that he's fit he's still a top striker.

I dont think he is worth anything, these players that are constantly injured, they never improve, the money is better spent on someone who you can actually pick to play rather than hoping they come back.

When fit, yeah, he may even be capable of scoring hat tricks agaisnt anybody in the world, but if he cant play the bread and butter matches against the likes of west ham, blackburn etc etc that make up 80% of the matches of the season and the games where you get your points from, then he isnt worth having.

Which is why i said on a knocked down fee or even for free next summer. That money couldn't buy a player capable of playing for the top 4 so there's very little to lose and especially in the case of Liverpool, shirt sales etc that Owen will bring will go a long way to paying his wages.

I wouldn't. He can rot at some club for all I'm concerned.

I don't like Newcastle but I genuinely feel sorry for them. They've paid him a fortune when he's been out injured and although FIFA did stump up money for the wages after, he's just happy to leave when it suits him.

The guy has no class or sense of shame. It's all about him regardless of who or what is in the way.

I think we'd benefit more from someone in the Ole/RVN mould - like a poacher.

Ole was nothing like RVN. We sold RVN to create our current system and we're a much better side for it, however I would like the option to revert to the old style if necessary, much like Chelsea do when Drogba plays, he allows route-1 football, something we can't do.

However I would prefer a floating striker as well, like Berbatov, but I don't actually like the guy. Unfortunately Ferguson very rarely buys a striker from outside the EPL.

I disagree with that point but agree with the rest of your post.

I'd actually kill to have RVN or Ole back right now.

Ole would run the channels, play out wide right if needed and would move freely wherever he wanted. RVN was very much direct.

In that way they are nothing alike.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens with Voronin, Pennant, Finnan and Itandje. Rafa's made it clear to all of them that they have no future whatsoever at the club and there's been countless reports of their imminent depature, all of which coming to nothing.

-Itandje has seemingly vanished. Hasn't been training with the club after all but signing for Galatasaray but for it to fall through because of wage demands and the last i heard he was holding out for a move to PSG.
-Finnan's reportedly fallen out with Rafa after being offered to Villa as part of the Barry deal. Other than Villa there's been no link to any other side and no sign of him in any of our squads.
-Voronin's been subject to countless 'imminent bids' but none seemingly going anywhere. Talk about him leaving has gone very quiet again and like the others he's not even being considered in our squad anymore.
- Pennant's the most interesting one. We've reportedly agreed deals with both Blackburn and Stoke but Pennant is refusing to move saying that he wants to stay and fight for his place in the side. He's the one player mentioned that could have done a job for us in recent games but there's talk that Rafa's refusing to play him or put him in the squad in an attempt to make it clear that he's got no future at the club.

Pennant's the only one that i can see leaving tomorrow so barring some late bids the other 3 could end up sitting in the stands untill January.
