It spreads them out - I'm able to keep the combo in songs for a lot longer when I play with it on. Ofcourse I try not to use it as its a cheat but still

Hmm a few of my friends also play with Hyperspeed on and say its better. Might have to try it...

Take the neck off
Unscrew from the guitar body end (5 by T10 Torx Security Bolts)
Gently seperate neck
Lift circuit board in neck out and move it forward
lose neck again taking care not to squash wires etc...
Tighten screws
?????

Just tried the hyperspeed, still can't do tier one on hard
Although it does make Medium a cinch. Just 5* my last song to get the Achievement, Knights of Cydonia.

I still cant 5 star raining blood on medium. Im playing through expert now for christ sake and I still cant 5 star it! My highest score is 118,000 (5 star is 124,000) 
When I'm doing hard I have hyperspeed on 3
learn to how to move your hand up and down the neck quickly.
its hard at first but once you get used to it its easy. you just need to remember where your fingers are so you you dont hit red when your suppossed to hit green.

a tip for starting hard is to stretch your index finger up not ** little finger down, just play the first tier on hard and you will pick it up. once you get a bit more used to it u will be able to stretch either finger and move your hand along the neck.
I had the same issue for months and months. I couldn't do it despite trying various methods to get the 5th fret. That was until I tried rockband and went through that on hard guitar.
Its a nice in between difficulty from Guitar hero medium to hard.
You get much longer for a lot of tiers to get the 5th fret. After that I could go from not being able to do more than 2 or 3 songs on hard to instantly being able to do half on both gh3 and 2.

from playing guitar hero 3 through on medium and 5 starring everything other then that slayer song i went off and played rockband now upto expert mode (half way through) and went back to gh3 for a while. gh3 is so much faster but with the extra skills learnt at the slightly slower paced expert level i managed to 5 star the slayer song 2nd go and then proceed to bash through most of hard aswell.
rock band has a much better learning curve.

I can keep up with it but once i lose that 'instinct' to hitting the notes it all just goes to mess and I can't get back into it. My fingers must be amusing though.

Rly? I watched a youtube video of that because you got me intrigued - is it the start that's difficult? Or which bit is it?
When I moved to hard I was currently playing GH: Aerosmith - and because its generally easier and slower paced I found it a lot easier. By the time I finished hard on aerosmith I could pretty much do all of it on GH3. GH3 is definitely a step up on aerosmith and I'm glad I didn't start learning to play hard on GH3
