and after the internet wasn't working rang up o2 who said because it's not on one of their contracts it's not supported.

surely some network will support it and carry the internet on a payg plan?

anyone else buy a htc touch pro sim free? what are you guys doing about mobile internet?

cheers.

Full internet is not supported on PAYG but FYI if you change to o2 contract -
O2 GPRS settings (Email/Web):

Homepage: http://pda.o2.co.uk/
APN address: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: mobileweb
Password: password
Session type: Continuous / permanent
Authentication: Normal
Security: Off

Email servers (POP): mail.o2.co.uk
Email servers (SMTP): smtp.o2.co.uk
DNS Servers: 193.113.200.200 and 193.113.200.201

Note: The "Mobile Web" service must be enabled for these settings to work.
* We've also been told of an alternative username of 'faster', with a password of 'password'

Contact o2 Customer Services to get this enabled. Not available on PAYG

awesome, cheers teledude ... shame it won't work though :( don't suppose you have any idea if this is going to be the same for all networks? please don't say i just bought it sim free wanting to use it on payg and am not going to be able to get the internet working ...

Why not get O2 Simplicity, that way you aren't tied to a contract (well, 1 month notice to cancel I think) and will be able to use o2 web access.

I couldn't tell you tbh - off the top of my head I think you can get web n' walk payg from tmobile :)

Sent an email to t mob to see what they say - thanks.

Orange and Vodafone sell it on contract, so maybe give them a ring and ask?

Cheers stellios .. i have a post on the voda forum and will get in contact with orange to check.

Yeah i've seen about o2 simplicity meeko but in all honesty i don't know if i'd use that amount of texts/minutes and it's too expensive for me. also they said because atm the htc touch pro isn't supported by o2 they have no settings for it anyway ..

Which is just a Windows Mobile device so settings and instructions will be the same for any WM device.

What level of internet access do you get with the above settings and what's the rough cost? Does you get 3G/HSDPA? What's the data charge?

i'm not sure mujja. it shows HSDPA in my area and it seems relatively quick - not cheap though i went onto a single weather site and it was 40p to put it into context. think o2 it's £4 a mb

That's expensive.

You would have been better off with a free handset + contract with unlimited data.

I some how managed 40MB of data just web surfing in my first full month. The opera browser is great and loads pages in seconds. I don't even bother with the wifi sometimes when at home.

how u getting on with the phone? I really want one but orange aren't getting it and I want to stay with orange

Mate, if I could get a £5 a month deal just for web browsing i would so jump on it but unfortunately I'd have to take out a deal with minutes/texts which wouldn't really be viable for me atm.

Really well mate .. i just go to xda devs for any help and i get a quick helpful reply. phone itself is awesome, using the internet is a breeze through opera on it.

have a look at three payg its what i put into my kaiser......i top up £25 a month for 700 minutes and top up £5 for internet for the month....

Not that much worse than contract deals. for those that dont want a contract
