All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Chelsea were a champions league and top 4/5 league side and they had trouble signing some of the real big players, whats the difference for City. They are not even that. They may have the money but they still have to convince a few more big players to join. As proved by chelsea, money isnt every thing.
How do you mean as proved by Chelsea? Since Abramovich came Chelsea have consistently challenged at domestic and european level, which is where City want to be.

It takes time to build any team, but what money can do is rapidly accelerate the growth.

Make no mistake, I do not want City to get anywhere near to the top of english football. But when a club has the will and means to buy anyone (anyone who would then actually sign obviously), that is something to be concerned about in the long run. Which is why I don't see it as a joke that Robinho signed for them, I see it as a possible sign of things to come.

Anyone know if Chelsea have said anything about not singing Robhino?

I wonder if Roman still has them hitmen...

Exactly, Chelsea where not a top club when players started going there. They signed old legends for high wages. They spent stupid amounts of money in a bad way. They would be where leeds are now if it wasn't for Roman.

Footballers just follow the money, there is no loyalty. What we have seen with Man City is a huge statement of intent. If they want to be the biggest club in the country they now have the means to do it and no one can stop them.

I found it hilarious when Manu fans complained when someone with more money came along, it's now going to be a fun ride watching City buy who the hell they want, probably lampard in the winter window ;)

If there truely is a god though, Ronaldo will sign for city :D

Hopefully sooner or later more and more people will realise how this sort of club management is doing no one any favours except the mercenary footballers.

The next transfer window will be huge for city.

Only that we said we weren't prepared to pay £32.5m for him, which is spot on if you ask me.
Robinho didn't want to play for RM any more, although they wanted him to, and the only team who met their asking price was City.
3 years ago Chelsea would've been stupid enough to get in to a bidding war now they don't need to:)

They were top 3 in Christmas last season and only the second half they drifted off, if they are a little more consistant for a couple more months they have a chance. I can see them beating any teams now with the fire power they have.

Chelsea haven't finished out of the top 6 since 95/96 winning a few domestic trophies along the way whereas City haven't won anything for over 30yrs except Div 2. and haven't finished higher than about 9th in the top flight in ages.
It's cost RA over £250m to push Chelsea just that little bit further to become what they are now and they're still not the best so I can't see City getting there any time soon no matter how much cash is thrown at them:)

Yep, he battered Liverpool on both nights in the CL games. ;)

In other news...

:D :D

We may not actually finish out of the top 10 after all. :)

But its still a joke that it has taken until the last day to get some players in and for BK to show that we actually have some money, sort of.

If this was done pre-season then we may have not lost against Blackburn and Pompy.

He seems a good signing judging from what i've read on Wiki plus read from other sites.

Well we should have won all 3 of those games to be honest, 2-1 up at home to Blackburn then give it away especially the 3rd goal and as for the Portsmouth game that was diabolical.(no disrespect to Blackburn/Portsmouth, both good sides but at home last season we did very good vs Portsmouth)

If Saha gets fit, we get Cahill back probably end of this month then Love in Jan which means we should have a pretty damn solid squad.

Thats a Good Point :)

Why is everyone playing with my big banana

You love it you tart. :p

I've just read back through the past few pages, this season might just have got a bit more interesting. I don't think either Berbatov or Robinho are really worth £30m+ at the moment but in comparison to some other players who've gone for £25m+ it doesn't seem quite so excessive.

And they will ship more goals than they score ;)

Spurs are more likely to win the league than Man City.

True but your not considering the wild spending before he even got there and how much poo financially the team was in. You had already lured players to Chelsea with wild spending and RA just pushed it up a notch. That extra notch is a gulf chelsea where never going to pass on their own. Everton have finished in the top 4-6 a few times but they cannot sign anyone because the reality of finishing 4-5th has been huge. Only money can fill that gulf on a regular basis and draw players in.

The city money though is a whole new level, they have the funds to buy man united, level it and turn the ground into a landfill site.

Mark Hughes is now on borrowed time. Next season they will bring in a big name manager to make it easier to sign players or the few that aren't so drawn buy the £'s.

You seem to be disputing the level of mediocrity here, Chelsea were only ever true title contenders after the Abramovich money. And all that money can do even then is put you in the hat with the big boys, that's where City want to be and I think it's a very real possibility that City can throw money around and achieve their goal.

Seems to me that it's become almost a myth to say money can buy success, when infact there is only evidence to support the theory. No money can't stop you buying a £20m flop, but without that money you don't even have the chance to find out.

I bet 34 million was probably peanuts to them too besides a lot of people do not realise how good Robinho really is because when they watch Brazil they watch them for Ronaldinho however if you viewed Real Madrid games you would have seen he's one of the world's best players.

He's not worth 34 million no, no player is but makes me laugh that some people said Ronaldo was worth 70 million.:p

Dr Al Fahim on ssn now on phone.

Sounds like Man city are in for a healthy couple of years from what he is saying, and sounds very genuine too.

I don't think the FA should allow this type of buy out to go ahead as it's clearly not fair, and as a business City will be a monopoly surely!? Scenario - Chelsea, Man Utd, Ars. & Liv. bid for player - City then steamroller and buy all..what is the max squad size a team is allowed? Spending will no doubt exceed the total profit made by the club just to save face (did you hear the arab owner talk about steamrolling to get to the top...).

I expect there will now be a super league setup for the ultra rich clubs.....??
