My daughter and me have really started enjoying some japanese movies (well, movie, we watched Battle Royale).

Can someone recommend some other japanese movies that we could enjoy? She likes her gore, but as she's 14, nothing too over the top and nothing sexual.

Most of the time its not just japanese stuff people are after. A lot of asian films are fairly similar in feel so.

Cashern
Old Boy(not japanese, and not really suitable to watch with your daughter , but still excelllent)
Ong Bak

are all thats coming to mind right now. Though i havnt slept for over 24 hours now so my brain isnt in top gear anymore.

Ive seen old boy, yeh it was superb, ive been trying to remember though if it had any sexual scenes in it or not. She does love gorey stuff and it dosent phase her though, i wouldnt mind her seeing sexual scenes, i just dont want to watch them with her to save her being embarassed :P

It's hard to describe with spoiling, but remember the scene at school with the mirror and the other scene in the hotel room? Nuff said really.

I'd still highly recommend The Killer.

just remember the twist at the end and you will know why a father shouldnt really watch it with his daughter

Azumi (1 and 2)
Versus
although don't take them too seriously :)

And I suppose any of the american remade films such as grudge, dark water, ring (ringu) or things like hero/flying daggers etc. .

My "Japanese" I'm assuming you mean "Asian"? ;)

Watch these :

The Guard Post (aka GP501)
Versus
A Bittersweet Life
Ong Bak
The Warrior King
Audition
The Machine Girl
Zatoichi (Kitano version as mentioned previously)
Agitator
Dead or Alive
Bullet in the Head
Hard Boiled
The Killer
The Host
Run and Kill
Kung Fu Hustle
Shaolin Soccer
Be a Man! Samurai School

Tons more I can't remember right now.

Ran.

Oh I didn't read the second part of your post....your 14 year old daughter won't like Ran....but you should, because it's bloody brilliant.

A taste of tea
Sharkskin man and peach hip girl ( just posted than in last film seen )

Neither are scary or gory, but great Japanese films. And I'm sure both of you will enjoy them.

* The actor from ichi the killer is in both.

What about anime, they love animation, and dont call them cartoons because they are nothing like ours.

Akira, if you like a story where a kid goes wild and way over the top.
Spirited away, your daughter will probably cry.
