All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

What league was that? Didn't quite catch it...oh yeah premier league.

Lower league clubs are getting ****ed to high heaven because of take overs like this.

Why doesn't some billionaire go and invest in Wrexham, Luton, Bournemouth, Rotherham etc etc

Getting a team from League 2 or 1 or even the Blue Square Premiership all the way to the top and winning everything in site would be an amazing acheivment, far more than chucking £500m + into a premier league side and winning the premier league a couple of times.

You would save a king's ransom in the purchase price alone - but the time it takes to get to the EPL would be at least 2 - 3 times as long as the Man City project imo

Man City cant be a regular in the top four for 4 years at least (it surely has to be 10/11 or 11/12 before they even finish in the top 4 so surely 14/15 before they are actually a part of the big four from regular appearances at season's end)

Jan transfers dont mean much because the best players are stil playing in the CL etc (in most parts) and cup tied in other comps - so its really going to be Next xummer before they can really get going

Obviously bringing a club from the lower leagues will take at least one year longer than that per league and possibly a lot longer - it could easily take 15-20 years to bring a club from the Blue Square league into a regular position in the top 4 (it would be VERY admirable for one investor to do it, but not many want to hang around for that long)

Its difficult to see who and where though.

I wouldn't change the back four for example. I'm not keen on Gallas and don't think he should be Captain but I can't see who we could buy as an adequate replacement. Players like Terry and Vidic don't grow on trees. The back four overall are very experienced.

A partner for Fab is the only position that did probably need filling with someone with more experience.

Fair enough - all I was thinking is that it didnt seem as though AW/Arsenal even tried to get anyone, how do you know a player wouldnt want to move if you dont ask (the club of course :) )

While its admirable that AW wants young players to groom - I think you may have the same issues you did middle to end of last season, younger players getting tired with the few experienced players getting injuries for crucial games

Still be a top 4 team, Im just not sure AW or Arsenal should "settle " for that

Just a point regarding City's spending. City had a £27m offer accepted for Torres by Atletico and he told them to **** off so don't expect them to be signing all the world's stars in January.
You know they'll pay stupid money to get him and it might just be what the Amercans are after before they jump ship. Benitez would have absolutely no say in the matter.

Cheer up. We may have richer owner's than City by January ;)

NO you're right, the amount of times bergkamp got 2 goals in a game, and unlucky to not get the hattrick in his final 5 years at the club, once maybe. All that and thats after his 15th start in 18 months and looks no where near the form he's had previously, yup, he sucks.

Wait no, Bergkamp was the best player ever because he got that one goal against newcastle. Hell, RVP's even better at getting injured.

Not joking though, RVP, is faster, stronger, scores more, gets more assists, is better from freekicks, what exactly made Bergkamp a better player? the simple fact he played for longer so had a bigger reputation?

You sir, are an attention seeker. Better than Bergkamp?? ******* hell that is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Bergkamp would rank way up there in an all time players list. The man was a genius.

How can you make statements like more assists and more goals when Van Persie barely kicks a ball?? Shouldn't you compare at the end of Van Persie's career.

You're obviously mental and I'll stop responding to your madness. :D

The new City owners are meant to be even richer than the Arabs looking to buy Liverpool.

Do you know something we dont?

Not personally but rumours are gathering pace that another bid is imminent and even suggestions that Hicks is the one who's reopened talks.

Not even close. City have been taken over by a company backed by some random billionnaires, we're being chased by a Dubai state owned company with access to Dubai state funds.

You seen SSN now?

Apart from Georgie Thompson looking sexy as hell, the new owner of Man City wants to buy Ronaldo, Fabregas and Torres :p

The £130m bid for Ronaldo thats going around... even Man Utd and Ronaldo, I can see Ronaldo going, that money you cant refuese who ever the player is.

Oh, I should be picking up my Man Utd Away - Berbatov shirt on Thursday :D

The City company are meant to be backed by the Abu Dhabi royal family, and a little bit of research will tell you how they compare to Dubai.

I hope something materialises then, not because of the fact we would be owned by multi billionaires (though that does have its advantages) but it would mean the end of those 2 clowns

It's the investment arm of the Abu Dhabi royal family.

Research the company behind the deal.

I know it's not backed by Abu Dhabi or it's royal family though (according to some 'expert' on SSN that is). The guy on SSN said this takeover has nothing to do with Abu Dhabi government/royal family.

It might be a case of "better the devil you know", at the moment it would only be guesswork that they'd be better than Parry & Hicks. Ok so you may struggle to imagine worse but there are definitely some out there - have a look at Romanov who owns Hearts if you want an example.

It has everything to do with Abu Dhabi. They're going to use City as a advert for the state.

Dubai may have had all the publicity over the past few years, but Abu Dhabi is the bigger of the two brothers.

C'mon, you should know the quality of SSN's so-called experts by now.

Err the Abu Dhabi United group is part of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority aka these guys http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Dhabi_Investment_Authority.

How are they not backed by Abu Dhabi

ADUG is set-up by ADIA but it's backed by private investors not the Abu Dhabi royal family.

As i said the Arab business expert on SSN made it clear that this takeover has nothing to do with the Abu Dhabi royal family.
