This week 'Silent Cooling solution' 4870?

The driver zip only contains drivers....the bios files were posted on another forum website. I can't see them on the Powercolor website either.

Almost bought this card on MM, good thing I found out about this thread before. It's absolutely ridiculous that Powercolor or any manufacturer can release an unfinished product like this then expect users to spend so much time and effort to make it work "somewhere" near advertised.

Flashing bios is not a procedure everyone can do and follow, let alone the chance of bricking it and RMA is also void.

I would avoid Powercolor from now at all costs.

ok gang uve all moaned about this card and i found the solution, well for me anyway but im sure it can help

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1163/Gainward_Expertool_v.4.0_for_ATI.html

that is a link to download expertool for ATI, which im using for my 4870 pcs+ as u can see in my sig and i hav only changed the fan control in the menu as CCC handles everything else for me. my fan speed is set to fixed 80% which jus sounds the same as my system so no hardship and my card idles at 45/46oc! and i fink that is some good goin! and especially as its clocked a little bit too! and on 3dmark01 i got like 37276 score, got do 06 yet and has been stable on furmark for about 3hrs!

I don't think a 'normal pc user' who may purchase this card would ever look into the temps of it. Its unlikely they will run into problems as ATI have stated they are capable of running hot.

However, to 'overclockers' they are lots of 'work-arounds' to getting the card to run cooler and more efficient. I'd think anyone reading this forum was capable of flashing another bios. With a bit of tinkering around you can get these card running great.

80% on the fan speed would be really loud on my system. Even with a normal CCC fan hack at 33% I could only just hear the fan and idle temps were never more then 50c. What is your system cooling like?

Hi guys,

Noticed last night the odd grinding-type noise at idle. Modded the fan profile in the bios to 5% initial speed, and this got rid of it - must just be an odd thing that only happens at certain rpm.

JB

Can you tell me how you modded the fan profile in the bios to 5% initial speed? I know about the fix to change the fan profile to manual and have a constant speed but its only the initial speed (and that damn noise like someone free-spinning a roller skate wheel) that is the problem.

Much appreciated.

First post :)

Like most on here I was initially dissapointed with the fan solution on this card as the default fan profile is rubbish. However flashing the bios or any one of several software utilitys (I am using rivatuner) will fix that no problem.

My card runs really quite cool at idle and only needs the fan at about 8% for no increase in heat in long surfing sessions and at that speed is really very quiet indeed.

As for performance while gaming I was happy from day 1 as it performs very well and so far I have had zero issus.

Can you advise the easiest way to flash a bios for a complete gfx-bios-noob?

Really happy with this card except for that niggling noise at low speed..
