Where to remap or chip a car?

Isn't the BMC CDA fairly expensive and also not really going to offer any decent gains at all.

just leave it, save your money.

Oh yes, its suitably expensive, way overkill for a Corsa. But they guy seems hell-bent on getting 2bhp out of his car, so this is probably the best (and most economical way) of doing so.

I agree he should in reality buy 2.5 tanks of fuel rather than a BMC, but as of yet, he is still adamant he wants to increase the "powah" of a Corsa

9bhp.. lol, dunno what that mate was on about. 25 bhp.. Well is a k+n air filter worth it. Only like £50 and doesnt it make it cleaner and sound a bit nicer?

I looked at a remap on a 2L Zetec.....11bhp :(
You will get that if your very lucky, more likely about 5bhp.

how much would one of those cost and how much performance would it increase the car by? Cheers

Try and get the following into your head.

NOTHING you do (airfilter, remap, exhaust etc) will give you any worthwhile performance increase. You may think it will be in reality it wont.

Cold air feed is your best bet. Cone filters just suck in hot air from the engine bay which reduces power.

Unless your talking Throttle Bodies, Turbo modifications or Nitrous you wont see ANY performance increase and a 1.4 Corsa.

You don't actually have this 1.4 corsa yet do you?

So why not save the money that was paying for your corsa, then the £500 you were going to spend on a remap, and buy a faster car in the first place.

How much is this corsa costing you?

Tell us your budget and we'll be able to spec you a faster car :)

Really? All the 318s I've heard sound pap :( A bit like my Leon really :(

It doesn't sound like a 4cylinder car you'd probably expect, sounds more nicer though it doesn't sound like a VTEC kind of nice either but it is much nicer sounding than other 4cylinders.

I'll post a recording up after work if it stops raining today*

Well, given that the family had an e36 318, my mate has an e36 318is, and the last e46 I drove was a 318, I'd have to disagree.

The larger 6-pots sound great with the right induction though!

What do they make after a map? (bearing in mind that the Mini ONE was an electronically castrated Mini Cooper engine, i'd rather know what the Cooper makes pre and post map)

It's not really worth it, but there are ways of sweetening the deal by getting the exhaust and filter second hand and then finish it off with a custom remap.

If you want some figures, email Red Dot and ask what is the expected performance gains. With a decent exhaust, air filter and a custom remap, am sure 10bhp is do-able.

cooper is quoted 10bhp, so probably about 8bhp :D

it is true about the mini one though, its just electronically restricted, so a map will give it about a 30bhp increase

Apparently it's all (or mostly) at the top end though, so you dont actually notice a big difference in day to day driving.
