A preview of whats to come - stonking benchmarks inside.....

ha and price? £400 for chip and 300 for a motherboard? with new intel socket , x58 mobo?

If thats the extreme edition then expect around £900 or so. Still dont get with these new chips 3.2 seems to be the highest stock clock.

Thermal limits and all but if tis clocking to 4ghz under air then surely they could come out with at least a 3.6 or so clock. (for around £1500 probably).

As always, faster stock chips will come out later.

Extreme is slated to be around £700 working on the conversion from $999.

Hi there

I have given up with Crysis....

Fresh install of Vista, no change.
Installed full game, all patches applied, no change.
Messed with all driver settings, disabled crossfire, no change.

Am on Vista 64 Ultimate with 8.8 Drivers.

1680x1050, Very High, DX9, 64-Bit = 82fps
1680x1050, Very High, DX10, 64-Bit = 14fps

Its just mental and it looks as if the HDD is constantly paging or their is a lack of power, but the system runs everything else fine, Vantage, CustomPC benchmark etc. etc.

I'd ring up ocuk and send it back under the distance selling rules...or to me :p

Is it really limited to ddr3 1066/1333 or can higher clocked ones be used because the g.skill hz is mighty tempting now so by the time nehalem comes out, it'll be a good bargain. Oh and are there any triple channel kits coming out as well?

Still think one of these would push your x2 cf along much faster than your q6600 is atm. Hardware cannucks were saying there q9650 at 4ghz was still bottlenecking 1x4870x2 never mind 2 of them.
My q6600 is at 3.8, so while a bottleneck, I would still need to get an i7 that's near the top of the line and overclock it hard to get any visible improvement.

I'm just sick of waiting :p

Well 3.2 with these chips seem to be giving much more fps if that benchmark is true its not about clock speed as look at clock speeds on core2 v pentium big increase but lower clocks just hope those benches are true from lost planet big increase clock for clock.

Hi there

Its a bug with the X2's unfortunately.

A single 4870 at stock speeds with CPU at stock speeds, nothing overclocked gets 23fps in Crysis DX10.

Shame the 4870 X2's have a bug because 82fps in DX9 is rapid, was hoping to see what they could truly do in DX10.

if it is a bloomfield why is CPUZ only reporting 4 threads in your pic ?

shoulds they be 4 cores 8 threads ?

HI there

I cannot confirm anything, but who's to say I did not disable the additional 4 threads for overclocking purposes. ;)

I dont get any bug with my x2 in crysis, get around 27fps in dx10 1920x1200 very high.

Seems to be more of a bug with the test setup from the looks of it.

HI m8

Its looking that way, the 4870 in by itself is now upto 25fps, but as soon as I crossfire them its 11fps. Using the BETA 8.9's its 6fps.

What driver you using m8 and can you post a link to your driver or host it please?

P.S. Do you have 4870 X2 in crossfire or just a single 4870 X2?

I too get "lower than expected" fps in crysis.

i would expect more from a 4870x2 when looking at GTX280 sli results.

Using the driver from the HIS card install disc.

Driver Packaging Version 8.52.6-080708a-058488C-ATI

Single 4870x2

All nice theory but here are my problems:

1. Gibbos score with vantage, a game based synthetic benchmark. If what you said was true then he would not get any improvement over a similar clocked 45nm quad core which he clearly is and by a good margin.

Vantage overemphazises the CPU as much as 06 did, plus of course it has seperate CPU tests :)
