**SPORE**

The underwater cities which were promised were cut, and its been stated they will be in the next expansion. Theres other stuff too if you google it.

I don't personally remember Will Wright mentioning underwater cities in the videos we saw back then, but if he did it makes sense that something so large scale (and so different to the current game) would appear in an expansion. I wouldn't personally mind if underwater cities never made it in, because it doesn't fit.

Edit: I did some extensive Googling and it seems this was removed over a year ago, so why complain now? I also see nobody praising the fact that flying creatures were added, I think people are just trying to be negative.

The game as it stands now is very different from how it was first introduced many years back. At first your actions determined your genetic route - not simply placing things on your creature on a whim.

Your actions determine your gameplay now, have you not noticed on the creature history screen it shows if you've been "predatory, social or adaptable"? I've not gotten to the civilisation or space stages yet but I've heard that these behavioural branches determine what sort of empire you get in the end. I know for sure it affects your tribal stage because when I played an aggressively-behaving predator I got offensive skills like firebomb and some other thing.

I've been playing it all evening and while some of the phases are a bit on the underwhelming side (creature phase especially), the space phase more than makes up for this. Its great when you come across a planet colonised by creatures you created months ago with the creature creator. I've found some of mine in the creature, tribal and civ stages of evolution. Will be interesting to see if any have made it to the space stage yet :D.

I've actually been on the creature phase all day today, it's by far my favourite phase. I've met almost all species on the planet and have found all but one body part, that's how long I've been on it. :)

Speaking of finding your own creatures as well, I was shocked earlier to find a nest of my own species (the one I was playing at the time). It was genius, I could even mate with the lovey-dovey there and it even let me "migrate to" that nest so I would respawn there. So much you find out if you explore.

The reason for underwater cities is because creatures might choose not migrate to land, and so continue evolving in the seas. This means building cities underwater, and as tech increases, building cities on land but in a large dome of water etc. But as you say below, it was removed.

Some people might complain now because they haven't been following the game closely, just looking forward to what they heard when it was first announced. Theres more than a few regular posters on the spore forums who didn't realise these features were removed for inclusion in the next expansion pack either.

Your actions only determine what label the history screen gives you. If you want, you can simply pop off your carnivore teeth in favour of herbivore. Even after hours of relentless killing sprees, you can suddenly go against your label and do what you want. This might make it accessible, but it still isn't the same as your creatures features and body evolving based upon your actions and what you do (which was touted when the game was first announced).

My above comments are simply criticisms of various aspects of the game, and not a serious indictment of the game itself.
Something else pretty cool which I've noticed is if you go to your spore page ingame, it gives you updates on whats been happening to your creatures in other games. Someone actually made the current creature i'm playing extinct :p

Edit: Does anyone know how to record ingame video? It seems the game has this facility, but i've not found out how yet.

I have a quick question about the game, once you get to the civ or space stages of the game, do the other members of your race even do anything? do they simply wonder around the cities you build, and make you do EVERYTHING, or can you expand your race over a large ammount of planets to build up a large population and get them to fly their own space ships wich follow yours?

If the computer controller members of your race dont go into space with you at all, then it seems like the space stage is quite rubish imo, since only you as an individual is going into space, and not as a whole race.

I aint stayed with this thread so if its been posted im sorry.

Has anyone ever had a creature without eyes, if not try it i wana know if your gameworld goes black and white due to no eyes as i think its a feature in the game the better the eyes the better the world looks which is weird but its what i read on ea forums in passing thinking the black and white thing was a bug. Please can you confirm if it is or not plz. Cheers. Im in the tribal stage btw with a predator creature.

Yes different eyes can make it every thing black and white.

The tribal and civilization stages are a bit of a snore fest. The cell stage was fun but to short, creature stage was just about right, fun with plenty of content. The space stage Im only just starting, it seems to have load of content and seems rather fun.

Ok I wa splaying this until 4am last night and have just got onto the start pf the space stage here are my thoughts...
  • Cell stage is fun but a bit pointless imo, very simplistic and doesn't really add much to the game. Takes a bit long too, which means it can get repetitive.
  • Creature stage is a good laugh but I found certain aspects a bit confusing at first... such as some part of the communication/relationships not being consistent (sometimes I could charm my guys instantly, other times only the right side fo the pink friend-o-meter went up and the left stayed down. Why? Either way it was fun building up my creature and giving it uber abilities before taking my pack out on a rampage... I highly reccommend the best pair of wings beore you move to tribal stage... it makes you bad-ass!
  • Tribal stage was again good fun... but it doesn't really encourage co-operation with other tribes... it's much less hassle (and much more fun) to just go and wipe them all out. Either way there's no challenge or strategy to it, it's just the visual charm that gets you through.
  • Civilization stage was quite fun with designing your own ships and houses... but again I think that after a while this would get very very old... going forward for future games they need to implement some sort of auto-build optionto stop it getting too tiring. The gameplay in this bit again had very little challenge... just get all your cities to 1200+ incomem build enough turrets, spam enough powerful air units, and you'll be fine. Again, very little strategy.
  • Space stage... i'lll tell you soon... just started it but so far seems interesting enough and my ship does look awesome.
I really think this game is one that will get better as content is released... I think it was a great and ambitious concept that couldn't quite be implemented how thy wanted, and that extra content and patches will bring it into its own. However immediate concerns are a real lack of strategy and substance underneath some of the stages... I didn't quite get that sense that I was a God doing epic things. I wanted to see more interaction with the populace, and see the effect my decision have on them on a more personal level... something I don't feel that the Tribal or Civ stages let me do. I want Black & White style detail.

Visually the game looks fantastic... it's got one of those 3D engines that you can't just help but love, everything is rendered properly and it all runs butter smooth on my ageing 8800GT at 1680*1050. No complaints there at all.

We'll see how it goes... but the fact I was up till 4am last night playing it and had no idea where the time went (time junmped 2 hours each time I glanced at the clock lol) bodes wel. I hope they make something ogf the game, or even ensure that they learn from any drawbacks of this game and make Spore 2 a true 'evolution' of the genre. :)

Work as a pack for communicating rather than solo, and when communicating, try to keep the other group small, it's much easier to entertain a few.

Finding it hard to find planets in the Space stage. Started the game at 10 last night and found myself only quitting at 3.30am. :p

4 am ;p

Finding it hard to find planets? I'm not sure if its due to my location, but every system I go to has at least one, if not multiple, planets. Lots of other races too - and only 2 races which keep threatening me - but don't attack (they keep asking for cash).

I'm liking this game, yes a little simple in places but I love the cuteness of it, what really surprised me was coming across creatures I had created with my daughter months ago:) I was and truly had my ass handed to me by pinky who is my daughters favorite monster:)

I mean finding specific planets for the missions

I'm having a serious graphical bug and its really starting to annoy me.

When I am editing creatures and vehicles they look perfect but when I preview them in sporepedia they are glitched and all the textures are so blurry. When I edit them again they look perfect in the editor view.

Edit: Looking on forums it seems like someone with SLI GTX 260 has the same problem as me :(

So, is the general opinion that this is worth getting now at current retail, or waiting a month until its half price?
