Woah! How retarded is Vista!?!

1: Download upto date drivers/sp1 for vista.
2: Default everything in bios
3: Install vista (with sp1 after if not intergrated)
4: Install LAN driver only, get all hotfixes/updates
5: Install rest of drivers from Microsoft update

Hopefully that sorts it if you ain't done the above already.

You said XP was a raid, is Vista? If so is it 1 or 0?
I'm using a 1TB F1 drive to install Vista on, XP is on Raid so I've only reverted temporarily.

thats not true at all, explorer crashed for me each time i tried to click explore on ANY drive..

had to type E: or D: and ENTER!!!!

@OP re-boot and hope it is fixed...

i find that bugs are rather strange, sometimes they happen and sometimes they dont, even if you do exactly the same thing 100 times, your gonna get different bugs
This is PRECISELY what has been happening. I try to close a window displaying drives, it stops responding, you choose to end now it takes the whole of explorer down and never comes back! I was attempting to install orange box and it wouldn't auto play even after setting it inside CP, so when I explored it, it kept going belly up. Same with other windows that stopped responding.

The animosity shown to a genuine question is quite astounding sometimes

Fair enough IF it was brand new kit, then helpful posts about how to resolve the issue by turning down the oc is one thing, but OP has said a few times that the kit has been running XP for nearly 2 years
At last, thank you! I really do appreciate the time and effort of genuines posts but you get muppets who just enjoying trolling around for post counts +1. Yes it's the same bunch of individuals. As I stated, I want to give it a try and I came in here for help and advice, not just to rant.

Phil, I think we're onto something here . . .

After the reboot obviously Vista didn't like something, the apps I installed were:

Logitech Setpoint - Vista32bit
Soundcard drivers which Vista didn't like then found a way to install - XP
LAN drivers - XP
Wifi drivers - XP (where the app kept minimizing and refusing to show, wasn't really needed to be perfectly honest, can use windows for that)
ATI drivers - Vista
ATI Tray Tools - Vista
Bitcomet 0.70 - XP (Really need this one, I dislike most other versions + Clients, had no issues installing this one)
Ultramon - Think it was XP?

I'll be attempting a fresh format and installing all the updates. And I'll attempt to stick to Vista drivers only.

Thanks guys.

With Vista I tend to only install drivers from Windows Update. This way I can be assure than Microsoft have checked them. I can safely say I have not had one issues this year with Vista.
Thanks, I didn't install the update immediately, I ended up doing the above, but I'll put updates down as a priority :)

I've only had a quick skim through the thread, but I saw you have your memory at 4-4-4-12, and your voltage at 1.8v?

When I first fitted my Corsair ram and changed to 4-4-4-12, I had freezing and other strange problems in Vista, until I upped the Voltage, as was recommended, to 2.1v.

Been running perfectly ever since.

These are crucial Anniversary edition, have a search around to see how well they clock. That said, it's been running at that config for almost 2 years constantly being put to test as I do a lot of gaming and other intensive stuff.

Fair enough, just trying to help.

Out of interest, I just googled "crucial anniversary 4-4-4-12" and had a look in a couple of forum results that appeared, and in the sigs of Hardforum users I saw people using that ram at 2.1v, such as this chap

2 x 1Gb Crucial Tenth Anniversary PC2 5300 @ 4-4-4-12 2.1V

Have you tried it?

Worked for my Corsair ram anyway, haven't had a problem since upping to 2.1v

Vin.

EDIT: Was just having a quick browse of this too, I see people running it at 2.1v 4-4-4-12

Right, I'm missing the F1...

Thanks for the advice V1N but everything is fine at 1.8v for 2.8ghz :)

Installed updates and touch wood every thing seems fine so far! I'm convinced it didn't like a certain piece of software.
