Kids starting school this week have to stay till they are 17

I agree that there are a lot of manual jobs that need doing, but more of these jobs are becoming automated, robots will be doing all the crappy stuff soon. (until they turn on us )

While many kids are much better off doing an apprenticeship than uni, they can still start at 18 after A levels or some other form of training rather than leaving at 16.

Many children are beyond saving and some are just stupid and obviously there are still many manual mind numbing jobs that need doing, but there are those that are just missing good parents who make them work (if it wasn't for my mum I probably wouldn't have done my homework), any way that the state can fill this gap to help them stand as much chance in the world as a better off child is good, it will lead to less disillusionment, crime etc.

All I'm bothered about is:

a) Is this going to hit me in TAX in some way or another? (I.E - Will the hard working, honest tax payer get stung in the balls some more for wasters?)

b) If a) = YES, when will this be?

c) If A) = YES and B)= SOON then which MP do I have to go kick in the groin to thank for this?

Yeah, i also believe my year are the first ones to be able to get A* a-levels...many employers will forgoet/be ignorant/Naive and think that someone getting an A this year wont be as good as A* people from my year.

LMAO. Worst excuse for being stupid...EVER.
Stupid? Ha, more fool you. Here I am, sat here earning a large wage, as a Softrware Developer and consultant to many clients such as DHL, Deutsch Post, SwissPost, Royal Mail Parcelforce, UPS and other large courier firms. I am also a consultant and developer for clients not related to logistics.

I have 4 C+ grade GCSE's to my name, and 5 NVQ's. I am earning double what my teachers were, and they called me thick, too ;)

Good, keeps the low life chavs off the street for an extra year.

Next step is to introduce compulsory national service and then where on the road to fixing the teenage blight.

So did you do your basic Teki or just talking out of your arse?

Also how does it keep them off the street?

Most chavs are in school anyway :/

I'm gonna post my reply here as the other thread got closed.

All kids aren't chavs - so your broad generalisation makes you look a bit silly.

Secondly, I think the answer (as previously stated) is to put more vocational courses on for younger kids, ones where they can see an actual job or career rather than just 'lessons' if you get me.

Must have been searching for the wrong thing because I couldn't find this thread...

Anyway, given the dearth of apprenticeships at the moment I can't see this being worthwhile at all. The ones who don't want to study will just waste time instead.

Indeed - plus some kids are just unteachable, and keeping them on an extra year will not help that at all.

Not really, you can take a horse to water but you cant make it drink.

You can offer all the courses under the sun, but all the rotten chavs want is to leave school, jump on the dole and that's it.

You need to change there attitudes to life, what would you prefer the gentlemen of the 30s - 50s or the chavs of today's society?

Yet again everyone, including the BBC, is getting confused between "attending school" and "education".

The latter can happen without the former, and quite legally too.

If you read my post above yours you will see that I actually said this.

This again, is assuming all kids are chavs, which isn't the case - this segment of society does indeed yes need a slap round the face with anything by Ayn Rand and told to pull there weight, but one extra year of school won't do this.

Which actually, does contradict what you said - if you "can lead a horse to water but not make it drink" what deoes keeping a kid in school an extra year do then? but make them more annoyed at being trapped for another year of there life?

Rich

Great, more tax being spent on keeping chavs in school disrupting everyone elses lessons, all the while getting ema. When people leaving school at 16 could be getting a job and paying tax, like many from my school did.

what deoes keeping a kid in school an extra year do then?

It keeps them off our streets for at least a another year, thats why i said its on the path to fixing the problem. Once the brats leave at 17, they go right into national service for 2 years.

That should fix them.

You do know that kids are allowed out from school, and can cause trouble on the streets even when they are enrolled?

Putting them in for another year will not help the situation, they will still cause trouble, will just be older and more ticked off.

It will keep more of them off the streets during the day. Anything is better then nothing.
