**SPORE**

After 6 hours and going from Cell to Civilization stage. I can safely say that I am happy with my purchase and can ignore this thread now. Delivered everything I wanted :)

Is it me, or are the textures a bit poo? Maybe I have old drivers on my gpu or something?

Can't wait for space! The creator is very good if you have imagination or artistic flare, I must admit I am sucked in!

i never saved it...? I died afew times in the cell and space stage and there is zero penalty then.

I didn't find earth (didnt know you could!) lots of stars though...

you NEVER saved it? not manually? cos as soon as you exit the game, it goes back to the last save you made...

unless you have played solid for the last 48 hours lol

I'm having problems with terraforming, i have been giving the atmosphere gen and I'm placing it on the planet and the it disapeers after about 1 min and nothing happens. I have now tried this four time and my t score for the plant is still at 0. Any ideas?

You are moving the dot closer to the middle of the circle on the terraforming radar thinger yeh?

So up is denser atmosphere, right is hotter and vice versa. So work out what you need to get the dot closer to the middle and also have the range of plants etc to plant on the planet when the dot moves into the T1 zone to stabilise the atmosphere.

I've just got to the space age, i hope the game opens up more now, because so far it's been utter crap.

Each stage has been fun for about 30 mins, then it's just rinse and repeat the same stuff over and over until you have enough points to advance.

When you put the atmosphere generator on the planet it will briefly change the planet type to T1 for a minute or so. You've then got to use this minute to put vegetation on the planet, and some herbivores I think. This stabilises the atmosphere so the planet remains at T1.
There's a mission that explains it all to you on your homeworld.

I too have been victim to the autosave problem :( Just spent a good 2 hours on the space stage, screen started flickering and spore froze. :(
Oh well. Good job it doesn't take that long to get to space :)

So, going by his [Will Wright] comments in that article the game has been dumbed down to cater to the idiot generation! That probably explains why the game has turned out to be nothing more than an overrated POS!

I just read that article, and I promised I wasn't going to reply to this sort of post, but what gives you the right to call casual gamers idiots? I can't believe the elitism of some gamers at times.

If you're so elite then why did you play something marketed as an "ages 10 and up", casual, family game in the first place? Maybe casual gamers should be calling you an idiot because you can't read.

I'm not a casual gamer (and I don't claim to be "hard core", in fact I think it's all childish) but I enjoy Spore because I never expected anything more than a casual game, this is because I was never promised a hardcore game in the first place and I can judge a game for what it is instead of for what I think it should be.

And let's face it, no matter how "hard core" you think you are as a gamer, I for one need something simple to save my sanity between 3-day long games of Civ4 or grinding like a robot in MMOs.

You make out like the majority of current single and multiplayer PC games don't fit this specification? :p

(please don't rage at me, im enjoying the game too now i grinded past the issues of being a 100% social creature) :D

LOL nah, what I'm saying is this: Even though I like that type of game, I still need a break from them now and again, something fun and simple that I can just pick up for half an hour here and there.

I think all these people who call themselves "hard core gamers" play casual games on the quiet.

I wish people complaining about it being "dumbed down" and a casual game would tell me what they expected when they saw this box art, paying particular attention to the PEGI 12+ (ESRB 10+ in N. America).

Ok, just pulled myself off it! Been on since 3pm and had dinner inbetween. Just started exploring space and the game is really opening up. Civ phase was my least favourite so far, but enjoyed everything else :)

A lot of people base their expectations on everything that is shown and talked about before release. And tbh, if i didnt read or see anything about spoore, then just based on the packaging and rating, i wouldnt expect it to be anything complex or special. But from all the hype and information about the game before its release i was expecting something better, with more to it.

Edit: I just noticed my 1337 post count  bit off-topic but it made me smile :).

When I was 10 I was playing Total Annihilation >_>

If you're talking about the 2005 video that we keep discussing, that also said "casual" to me.

LOL.

I played that when I was young too, but if you're going to compare Total Annihilation with Spore it's just an even bigger contrast showing Spore to be aimed at a casual market. Total Annihilation quite obviously wasn't.

I'm not saying the rating is the be all and end all, it comes down to lots of things about the game that indicate who it's aimed at. I'm just using the age rating to ask why "hard core" gamers thought they'd get a worthy experience from something rated ages 12 and up.
