Over the past few months, an increasing number of threads in the Motors forum are being derailed with silly and ridiculous comments.
The most prevalent would appear to be from those claiming that only Mondeos and BMWs are welcome on here. At first, such comments may have raised a chuckle, soon after they became tedious and now they are becoming a real problem.

If you have nothing positive to contribute to a thread, hit the back button.

From now, all ridiculous and inflammatory comments will be removed. A warning will be given to the poster. Any further posting of such material will result in a suspension. The Motors Dons will welcome RTMs on these sort of posts too.

I don't want to come across all Nazi like but this behaviour needs to be nipped in the bud before it ruins the Motors section. I expect most of you feel the same.

Thank you :)

Can the same not be said for all comments regarding certain tastes in modifications, or is that ok because the mods find it funny, too?

There's a difference between expressing an opinion and completely derailing a thread. Wading into a thread and saying "OMG you only like Mondeos and BMWs" serves no purpose other than to aggrivate.

If someone posts pictures of their modifications and someone replys that they look crap and gives reasons, then that's fair enough. They asked for opinions and they got them.

A lot of discretion is required and there's no point in analyzing every possible scenario in this thread. If you have a problem with a post, RTM it and it will be dealt with accordingly.

In summary, use yer noggin.

Fair dos, but if someone starts posting "That belongs in McDonald's car parks on Saturday nights" would that not be considered out of line?

Fair shout :)

Whilst i agree someons opinion is just that, sometimes things/phrases/remarks border on insults, certainly to OP's anyway :)

That would presumably be somebodies opinion, whereas wrecking a thread about Seat Leons with garbage about how apparently if it isnt a Ford its crap rather isn't.

People just need to use their heads.

ie don't post things like "oh they will all tell you to buy a mondeo lol"

Indeed, a very very good call. There is too much sniping at people, in particular [TW]Fox which I find ridiculous. The whole "YOU ONLY RECOMMEND MONDEOS AND BMW'S" ruins many decent threads and there is no need. People need to remember why certain cars are recommended - because others on the forum have found that they are good cars because they have run them and appreciate them. Sure there are particular marques that get bashed, again the same applies - people have owned/driven them and found them to be pants.

Lets keep motors sensible, it's not GD!

General Discussion, what a place that is! I went there a couple of times and found people actually thinking they were cleverer or smugger than me, how stupid can people be? Of course I smashed them with a witty retort but I wont rush back there as its full of Harold Shipman look alikes who all know one another and chat on something called IRC. I got them ganging up and all sorts and nearly got to the point of buying OCUK off Spie just so I could shut it down and ruin their lives! :D

Oh yes, good call Scuzi and sorry for derailing your wise words ;)

I'm happy to abide by this statement Scuzi, PROVIDING we all think a little more carefully about dissing any non-BMW/Mondeo threads with comments along the lines of "should have bought a BMW for that money" or "its not as reliable as a Mondeo". This is really getting on my nerves, there are many many good (and bad) cars out there, not everyone has the same tastes.

This doesn't mean we shouldn't recommend these vehicles where appropriate, but everytime someone buys *shock* a Vauxhall Vectra for example, everyone goes into "omg you've just wasted so much cash!" or "it won't go around corners!" mode, which I'm finding equally irritating. BMWs and Mondeos are good cars, but are are other equally good (and even better) cars on the road.

I'm not condoning the stupid comments at all, but simply put, Fox and other people do bring this treatment on themselves.

The fact of the matter is, Fox for instance, can be very direct and post very inflammatory remarks sometimes, which people are unfortunately, going to play up to.

Not saying its ok for people to retort in the manner that they do, but are you really surprised that they do? I'm certainly not.

In my opinion, to an extent its cause and effect. Its all very well banning comments like these, but how about looking at the big picture?

No problem with the BMW/Mondy recommendations as for the large part, they are pretty decent cars for the money.

But when threads start appearing like the "Post your BMW in here thread", it hardly helps the situation. Imagine if every marque had its own picture thread, would that be acceptable?

We have a post your Clio 172 thread, an MX5 register, an Integra thread and a pimp your 200SX thread as well I think. The 'Post your BMW' thread was posted about a year ago when easyrider was going through his 'I am amazing' phase.

I love motors, if it's diesel and/or a car that isn't considered desirable (read BMW/Ford) it's acceptable to troll :)

It seems it was my reply in the Seat Leon thread (quoted above) to comments made that have contributed to Scuzi's post as Fox took it as some sort of personal attack. It wasn't actually directed at him specifically but the result was nothig short of pathetic and I appologise if my comment sparked such a reaction, that aside I totally agree with the point made above by Scuzi as long as it's applied across the board.

We seem to have too many people who think they are the next J.C. on here, and posting totally unconstructive nonsense in threads where the op has asked for information on a specific car is amazingly entertaining for all concerned. It's almost as though it's required to be a hater of one manuf'/fuel type and you get internet points for publically expressing that at every available oppertunity even if you have nothing valid to add to the thread.

People have forgotten that one of the great things about car's is the choice and diversity, everyone has slightly different wants and needs from a car.
It's this gentle banter that up to a point we've all enjoyed over the years, the problems arrise when people take banter too far or it's misconstrued and that's the point I believe we're at now. Let's get back to what made motors entertaining reading, the new cars, the old cars, the sometimes very odd stuff, the variety and the bread :D

I have to agree with this. At first it was a bit of a laugh but there are too many of the comments turning up in threads for no good reason.

Fox is always forthright with his opinions and can vary from interesting, to funny, to informative, to possibly verging on rude. But resorting to Mondeo/BMW comments is just poor taste, if someone wants to try and take him to task for his attitude, fine I'll grab some popcorn and watch the aftermath as I'm sure it will be entertaining but the trolling is frankly irritating.

As for you Avalon, I read that thread. Your first mention of BMW/Mondeos read as off-the-cuff banter. The second post came off as trolling. I can see from your attitude that it wasn't, but as a casual observer that's how it came off on the first read.

I don't post much, but I am all for this measure by Scuzi. The quality of the forum is being significantly affected by bandwagon jumping trolls and in this case it can only be beneficial to remove this element from the forum.
