Thank you, Mr Darling

looking on that site our 335i has lost about 12k in 18months too. Nasty, although I suppose its value after 3/5 years is more relevent.

£11,350!

When they call back and you tell them it's ridiculous and they blame the demand for large engined cars remind them that who else is going to buy the Z4M? A Corsa owner? They are going to get M3's traded in against it and if they don't offer you something approaching book they can hardly expect to EVER shift it.

they told me by phone, told him he was miles off and that was about the end of it, all polite but not even worth starting to haggle

£11,350  ...I bet they're having a laugh over that one, they'll probably call you back tomorrow and say some 'junior' made a mistake and what they really meant to offer you was £14,350. On the other hand...

they are not moving the price of the Z4 because they said they have had a lot of interest and the advert had 300 hits in one day, I did not want to tell them it was because of OCUK lol.

personally i'll be thinking they wont shift an M3 and will be offering him a deliberately un-competitive offer

*cough*

told you so.

seriously though, this whole anti big engined car thing is getting stupid. If they carry on like this the only person they'll offer a decent part x to is a BMW 330cd owner.

and how many of them are going to be looking to upgrade to a m coupe. The chances of them shifting the M and in turn getting a car thats easy to shift are none.

BMW website had a 2003 M3 for sale, higher mileage and lower spec than mine, up for £16.5k, as you say they just didn't want it

I was only interested if I got a good deal, so no problem walking away from it

Daft thing is that by offering daft p/ex they are effectively saying that they don't hold value at allso, if thats the case, why would I buy another

didn't expect any movemnt on that with a p/ex and tbh wasn't expecting a great trade in offer, that was just too stupid for words though

The online glass's thing lists p/ex value as £15,100

oh and while noseting round I have found several M5s below £30k and a M6 for 42k :p

My Dad used to have an M6 ...if you want fast, well ...it doesn't get much faster this side of Hyper Cars costing Hyper car money. Jesus H Christ that thing moved like an electrocuted ferret being chased by a greased steroid injecting, crack smoking weasel.

You cant have it both ways. Their car is by far the cheapest around so why would they offer you a really good px price? Looks like at the price he is offering you he is thinking he wil be sending the car to the block and not retailing it.
Normally the only reason we would retail a car of the age and mileage of yours is if we had paid far too much for it and had to "retail out of it."
Other BMW dealers around may be different but we definately wouldnt entertain retailing the first car mentioned and unless Rottys is mint we wouldnt do that either.

We have an M6 for £37K.

They must be - every BMW dealer I've visited has had plenty of 4-6 year old cars. Infact much of their stock consists of these. Thats pretty much the whole point in the AUC warranty, if all your stock was under 3 years old you wouldnt even need the AUC warranty, MOT insurance, etc etc..

If you wouldn't retail a 2003 M3 with 49k miles what WOULD you retail? Do you not sell USED cars?

I said we wouldnt sell rottys 6 year old car unless it was mint. Recon on an M3 of that age can easily run to 2 grand. Thats means the car would then owe £13350 a warranty costs us £450. So the car is getting on for a SIV of £14k. We would want at least £2k across the car once prepped. which would take us to £16K on the pitch. Bear in mind M-cars are such hard work at the moment and the part-ex was a first offer and it doesnt seem THAT far fetched.

Yes Fox I do sell used cars.

i dont find it hard to believe theres some plank in charge of buying used stock at his dealership who doesnt like taking anything older than 2 or 3 years old. Ive been in 1 or 2 of them and wondered why. Bit stupid to have a used car department that only has "nearly new" cars in.

What exactly does a 'recon' consist of? Cosmetically at least AUC cars are not really any different to the sor of thing you'd find privately. A good example of this is that, cosmetically at least, my 150k+ mile 530 is in better cosmetic condition than the recent AUC Z4 we bought - it has less marks on the paintwork and the seats are in better nick.

'Its a used car sir, not a new car' must be uttered about 10 times a day in BMW dealers when dealing with used cars - so I've no idea what they recon.

Doesn't stop them sometimes being a good buy, especially with the warranty, but it seems your dealer is the only one in the country thats half bothered about the condition of the cars they sell.
