Hmm, tough call between HL (because single player was awesome but also cause it spawned CS) and Quake. Think I'll go with HL.
 
If were allowed Deus Ex then that defo gets my vote, however as mentioned its more an RPG than FPS.

If Deus Ex votes don't count mine goes to Far Cry (PC).

God, you really are a numpty aint ya Tefal. Half life is Sci Fi Fps and very good to boot and until 5 days ago it was the best single player experience but now its COD 4. Awesome stuff.

Best FPS is about best twitch shooter. (if online = bonus points)

this is between the two juggernauts : Quake vs HL

not only because of them alone but their Legacy to pc gaming (importantly to online pc gaming)

Deus Ex is a Hybrid FPS-RPG which is probably the best fps-rpg in the world. Its not the best FPS.

i can play Oblivion FPS style that means its an FPS yay...

clear enuff now? :D
 
If we're allowed it, I vote Deus Ex.
Otherwise I'd have to go with HL1.

EDIT: Curses making my post count even further from my sig one now :(

I agree entirely with all your comments but for the purposes of this thread alone, i'll allow Deus Ex...not just because I personally love it but simply due to the fact that the majority of people I know both on and offline class it as a FPS.
