Was watching BBC news, and Hawkins gave a (very) short interview. We (according to him) won't die 
Ermmm Physicists know that black holes can be formed from such a reaction taking place. They know that they are crazy small and last a very very very small period of time. They don't know if one will be formed when they do it though as it is very very hard if not impossible to predict. After this experiment takes places they may well be able to predict if a black hole will when one of these reactions takes place elsewhere.
The media are idoits and the general public are aswell.
If a some one said to you in the street that it was possible that a black hole would form from this experiment you ask them more questions e.g. Really? How big? Danger?
They would reply, yes, very very very small, non at all.
When the media report though no one bothers to ask any questions. For some unkown reason they just take it as what is read. I bet they even said its "very very small" and "there is no danger at all" but the media have just decided to leave that out.
For a leading Physicist to call the people who say its going to be the end of the world half-wits and the people that believe them t***s, that says it all really.
This is why the media are, by and large, a huge bunch of huge *****.
Definitely not certain.
Headcrabs can by killed by anything from a crossbow to a crowbar...

I was just reading this and started to wonder if these gamma ray bursts could be other life creating their own LHC's like us, remember we are dealing with the fundamental stuff that makes up the universe and all we know is that we don't really know enough, why was there a big bang and how was it created, what really causes these GRB's that are like miniature big bangs for all we know?
Could it be the reason we haven't heard anything on seti? our civilization has gone from basic to fairly technologically advanced in a just few centuries, how long have we been broadcasting in that time? Not long, then theres other things we narrowly avoided like nuclear destruction, these things are like a grand test of intelligent species i bet.
