I opted for the advance delivery, where you give them your credit card details and they send you one straight out for you to send yours back in 30 days.. Now I started this on the 23rd of July, and my drive is set to arrive on the 4th of August.. Does it usually take this long? The reason i chose the 'Advance' service was to get a working drive in my pooter as quick as possible, not 2 days short of 2 weeks.. Does this time period seem about right for WD RMAs?

Need to RMA my WD drive but it's a bit inconvenient having it gone for that long :(

Blah I say, blah! We'll just have to see if this advanced thingy actually works on not :)

I need to RMA a 250GB drive but at those turn around times I'm not sure if it is worth the hassle.

Use the advanced option. It means you don't have to wait for your old drive to arrive with them, go through checks and tests, before you get the new one sent out.

Well good and bad news.. Good news, it's bigger than the old one.. Bad news, it's SO much louder than the old one! :S You can just hear it clicking constantly! Should there be a large difference in seek noise between a 250GB AAKS and a 320GB AAKS? Looks like leaving the PC on downloading overnight is a no go now, pretty annoying this.. :S

For Petes sake. Pretty sure this replacement has to go back now. Making some very very strange noises.. Intermittent pulsating spinups, clicking, just then it sounded like a chav trying to boot through the gears of a broken 1.2 corsa. Argh!

I now have a WD hard drive that needs to be RMA'd, I am going to go for the advanced service but will I have to pay for the postage of my broken hard disk (presumably to USA) out of my own pocket? Also, say you send the HD off with plenty of time before the 30 day limit and it still doesn't reach them in time because of postage delays etc. Will they still charge you if you provide proof of postage?

When I done an advanced RMA, for some reason they did not register it as received despite having proof that they did. I didn't check until 2 days before the time was up and phoned up, sent the woman on the other end proof and she marked as as received. They also charge the full RRP :P

I used Airsure Signed for or something.

Do you have to send Western Digital drives to the US? Also what manufactures, preferably someone with somewhere in the UK, would be better / quicker. I know last time Overclockers dealt with it for me, and it would less bother.

The Western digital drive I sent back went to Germany. Still took 6 weeks

Going through the process of RMA'ing a Western Digital MyBook 500GB, and i wanted to go with the advanced option - but they valued the drive at $300 + $60 (Tax), meaning they would have to hold nearly £190 on my card! The drive cost £100 one year ago!

Im hoping their high valuation results in me getting sent a 1TB drive back :D (which they only rekon is worth $225 odd on thier site)
