Going to the US for a long weekend... which city?

i am going to NYC tomorrow for a long weekend woop!

i have been to seattle for a long weekend before and enjoyed it, why not try going to a east Canadian city for a change?

San Francisco is amazing, so much to do. My faviroute memory from my time there is riding a cab back to my hotel from a club, going about a 100mph over them crazy hills!

Yep, been there. I was in a bar in the Mission area and got a cab back to 'the city' the driver was insane. :D Ended up in a jazz bar until early morning, just around the corner from Union Sq and then went for breakfast in a proper US diner. Cool and nuts all at the same time. :D

Apart from NYC, Las Vegas and San Francisco, there aren't really any interesting cities to see in America, they are all a bit identikit. If you are going to the States you may be better off not visiting a city but visting their National Parks which quite frankly are the most spectacular in the world. Yellowstone, Yosemite, Everglades, Bryce, I could go on and on but the Americans got lucky with their natural splendure and they are fantastic at looking after them. Also how about just taking a car around New England in the Fall, you will be there at the perfect time.

Denver or Phoenix.

SF, Chicago, Detroit or Boston would be my next best choices. Detroit is much much nicer than its reputation imho

I had a great time in Boston, plenty to see and do and all the people I met were really nice. It was my first trip to the states and laid to rest a lot of the misconceptions I had about America.
My major regret about the trip was that I didn't manage to see the Red Sox play, as the whole city is just fanatical about their baseball team.

I've always wanted to go to New Orleans, tho I spose now isn't the best time. Anyone been in better times? I have visions of late night revelling in the French Quarter, drinking whisky in jazz clubs until the wee hours, and mornings spent in street cafes. I'm probably getting it all wrong, but that's what I'm hoping for.

Another vote for Chicago. Great city. Plenty to see and do, but the weather will be cold in November. Wrap up warm if you do go.
