Unnecessary long distance animal suffering

Hmm, well lets hope the rising cost of fuel puts an end to that argument.

Anyway did you even bother reading the petition, AcidHell ?. It is actualy about the rules being flouted by certain member states and asking to introduce short finite journey limits. Not for a ban on transporting.

At least read something about things before you condemn them.

The EU has more comprehensive legislation for animal welfare during transport than anywhere else in the world and the EU Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 lays out a number of important welfare measures during transport. However, no limit was put on the length of the overall journey which means that animals can travel for days before they reach the slaughterhouse.

A ban on long distance transporting. I do not agree with such a ban.

So yes I have read it thanks.

If you want to make a difference, simply don't buy meat unless you know they were prepared via ethical methods. Petitions don't work. Start buying local meat, and stop going to Sainsbury's or Tesco's. If you made this thread or posted in the affirmative and you go to one of the bigger chains, you're a hypocrite.

That's why I ain't signing.

I don't understand why people would condone long distance transporting when the animals can be humanely killed/chilled and shipped without the suffering.

I did say at the start that petitions are probably not the way to change it but given that some people won't even do that, what ****ing chance is there of them doing anything like changing their buying practices? .....

I thought that it was worth a try just to click and submit but obviously some people are just smart arses who want to put in there two penn'o'th to show how much they don't give a **** ! ....bravi guys! you never cease to amaze me.

I source all my meat from a local butcher who in turn sources his meat from local abattoirs.

The animals slaughtered by the local abattoir could have been transported for miles....

Its all down to lazyness and money, the animals load and unload themselves from the lorry and do not require any packaging etc..

Well, tbh, I really don't care all that much about a load of sheep/piggies.

Worse things happening in the world than a bunch of mal-treated animals that are off to get slaughtered anyway.

Its digusting. If I saw someone mistreating an animal, I would punch them till they were knocked out.

Then I would set about the knee caps, make sure they learn the lesson.

Ooooh, get her!

just because I don't support limit of travel time means I don't give a ****? well done for over generalisation. Get a grip.

I have a good grip thanks ...... if you can give me a good reason why you support long travel/suffering, I might be inclined to change my mind.

You are at liberty to think whatever you like of course and obviously you are not obliged to give a good reason but from what you have posted, you lead me to believe that you don't give a ****; I'm sure that my opinion means zilch to you but you normally have reasoned arguments for your point of view but this thread doesn't demonstrate that.

why because animals aren't humans. As I said if they want to do anything, then lower the number of animals allowed on lorrys. Lower the temperature etc. there is no reason for not supporting long distance transporting. The problem is the conditions inside the trailer, not the time taken. Combine that with the EU and it's stupid regulations that have closed a lot of local slaughter houses.

This tbh.

Not bothered about transporting long distance, just do it in better conditions.
