Games that stand the test of time.

starcraft
warcraft 3
diablo 2
grand prix 4

and i very suprised that nobody has mentioned this one yet, now i know some of you will imediatly dismiss it but what other game can you think of that being nearly 4 years old still has over ten million people actually paying to play it.
of course im talking about world of warcraft.

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2.
Mafia
Deus Ex
Age of Empires 2
Star Wars: Galatic Battlegrounds
Broken Sword 1

Far Cry

Makes me release although I'm primarily a console gamer these days theres a lot more games on the PC that I keep and come back to.

Stars! I just wish I didn't lose my copy, think I'll look around online to see if it's still in print. :)

Ive got a copy of stars in my collection, great game but ive always preferred...

MOO2 - i still play this regulary, in fact i last played it 2 days ago, not bad for a 12 yo game

4 years old is a test of time? Do you think people will be playing it in 15 years time? Also is anyone playing WoW 1? Or are they all playing TBC?

You can't really say a game is standing the test of time just because it's 4 years old I'd suggest that anything younger than a decade has not stood the test of time.

Bubble Bobble
Green Beret
Ghosts n Goblins
Turrican 2
Speedball 2
SWoS

are as still as addictive and good to play as they were when they were first released. That's a proper test of time.

Deus Ex - If anyone thinks the graphics for this are crud, they plainly didn't have the wonderful pleasure of playing it when it was first released. Maybe the graphics haven't stood the test of time as much as the content, but it remains the the most mind blowing and immersive game I've ever had the pleasure to play.

Monkey Island 1 & 2. Gonna load them up on my laptop this weekend, and complete them at work next week (starting new job in two weeks, so seem to have lost all dedication to current employer!).

Mafia - Still brilliant.

Eve - evolving environment and engine though, so maybe not really a valid proposal for having stood the test of time.

Lords of Midnight - it's actually the windows remake of this that I play, but it's basically the same game with a lick of paint. Again, I can still play this for hours on end, no two games ever turn out the same. That was '82 I think, 25 years old.

Have you tried the 3D "War of the Solstice" remake by Andrew Smart and Wayne Britcliffe ?
Very impressive, but for some reason not so well known.

Doom II

The graphics are bad but the gameplay's still there. You get satisfying feedback from combat, the level designs are still some of the best in the genre and it's a very long game with awesome coop and multiplayer modes.

G-Police

Came out in '97 and even to this day the graphics are nice. Underrated and a pity it doesn't have more recognition :(

Plug in a joystick and I'll have hours of fun going through the campaign again (bit easy by now though ;))

forgot to mention a game i bought ages ago, called chrome, highly under-rated IMO, still looks better than most FPS released, another one is nexus the jupiter incident, great game, so little praise
