Barclays' PINentry thing

No, no it wouldn't.
Yes, yes it will.
What ever a bank pays for people to design security, someone else will pay more to get around it ;)
Thats a very big generalisation that pays no notice to the specifics of just how hard it would be for someone to get around it. I also disagree that some scammer in an internet cafe in Nigeria has a bigger budget than the Barclays security department.

However, its been out for a while and I've not actually researched how effective it's been, so feel free to prove me wrong with a link to a source saying it has been circumvented.

WTF?

To make bank transfer online I now have to use this crappy little thing and put it code and what not, which means i either have to get 2 of these things (Home & Work) or carry it with me to work. I understand its another step to prevent card fraud but can they not think of a better way than this medieval crap ? It looks like a 99p calculator.

If you go into Barclays and tell them you can no longer use the internet banking at work because of the calculator they can disable it for you and you go back to the old way.

Soo, wait.

I'm just about to head out and (finally) open a current account at Barclays. I only need it to do online transactions (already have a savers account with them).

Are you telling me I have to wait for a device thing to be delivered to me before I can send myself payments (to another bank)?

What a pain..
