Have you ever seen or experienced something you cannot explain?

Nothing and I will try it, I was just saying you can do that with lucid dreaming.

Great! and yeah similar sort of experience lucid dreaming. Except this time you're awake and dont sleep. (ie you dont become awake in your sleep, you're awake already)

good good :D Theres another reason why to adopt the assumption that everything has a rational explanation...i'll call that method the "Sanitized Limitation Adoption Protocol" :D

Did you pick those words for the acronym perhaps. :D

What that means is: regardless of whether something is X or Y if Mankind only ever has the capability/capacity to understand X then X is the Truth. Y doesnt enter the equation.

What does this say? Well it says that man's knowledge and the truth are inextricably linked. So the truth/the explanation isnt out there its in your head. (add in cultural, geographical, biological factors etc etc)

So there is no X or Y out there.....hrmmm bugger....ive lost my train of thought.. not sure that was very clear.....(my state of mind was interrupted by noisy flatm8 making dinner)

If I'm understanding then you are saying that the truth could theoretically be either X or Y but if we only ever have the ability to understand X then we may safely disregard Y because it doesn't matter to us. And that all truth is contained within our minds but not all of it is accessible currently, as we become more knowledgeable we'll 'uncover' truths that already exist in our minds.

Well, it's a theory, not necessarily one I subscribe to but interesting nonetheless.

It's pretty much the scientific model isn't it? If two or 3 theorys fit the data. we use the simplest one. As we get more data we may need to change to y theory.

I think he means the theory that the truth is already in our minds and we only uncover it part.

What you are describing is Occam's Razor (or Ockham's depending on whose spelling you choose) which is a principle of parsimony. If multiple theories fit the data and importantly have the same level of predictive accuracy then you pick the simplest one. It doesn't mean that the theory is the correct one, only that to all intents and purposes it is as good as the correct one.

//edit it wasn't quite what I picked up from Surfer's post, as Tefal says I thought it was more about the idea that the truth is already contained within our minds.

Wondering why Jade who has cancer has to go on the front cover of every publication to sell this story ???

bizarrely enough Acid.. had a sleep paralysis incident early this morning bout 5 am.

Well it was actually 3 incidents. First was i was sleeping and i was dreaming that i was out-of-body cant remember exactly but i was flying about doing stuff.
2nd thing i have forgotten totally. (though i remember that i forgot it - if that makes sense)

3rd one was the sleep paralysis about 5 am this morning. Very very short and wasnt totally conscious. I just remember my heart beating -insanely- fast and feeling a tall presence standing over me. I was struggling extremely hard to just move my head so i could see this "person". Unfortunately the Fear was there as well but not so much because sometimes you are just overcome with the instinct of Fear but this time it wasnt so bad at all. Anyway woke up.

Not sure if its relevant but was watching Dune just before i fell asleep :D

I have seen something I can't explain today.
I saw 2 of our Paramedics who had been attacked while out on a shout saving somebody's life.
