360/PS3 FIFA 09 would only run on “1-3% of PCs”

The answer is that they simply cannot be bothered to make it because all the money is made on consoles.
So what they do is put console screenshots associate it with the shoddy pc version and dupe people in to buying it.

IMO the reason devs are going all "consoles is where its at, yehhh..." is due to the average PC title coming out at ~£30 compared to the console crowd's initial ~£50 tag, and average Joe clueless can just buy the game for little Jimmy and it'll work first time, no problems.

BIG profit margin selling units at £50 rather than £30!

That seems like a high figure to me. Given the quality of FIFA and football games in general, I'd like to think that our discerning gamers would run it on less than 1% of PCs :p

Identical experience here.
The 360 has been collecting dust ever since.

IMO Games are just better on PC

I gave up on console ages ago, i got a the WII sitting here collecting dust. Console games are way too expensive £40 to £50, pc games £30 max.

I would say you've got it mixxed up, the main reason why PC titles are so cheap is to try and cut down on piracy, even then PCs games are still among the most pirated. You are right, it is about money at the end of the day, but the low pricing of PC games isn't whats putting them off, it's the fact that not only will they have to price it that low it'll still get pirated to buggery and back again. The wii also really lacks a large collection decent 3rd party titles, probably due to the huge amounts of piracy that is also suffering from. Nintendo is still churning out their own 1st party titles but i doubt they care about the loss due to piracy as they are absolutely raking it in on hardware sales.

On the other side of the coin the majority of modded 360s have been banned from xbox live and i am yet to see a pirated PS3 game, i would be willing to bet it is because of this that the developers are flocking over to them - can't blame em really, it's where the money is.

So, in conclusion, piracy scares off developers. ('well duh' i hear you cry)

I thought PC games were cheaper because there's no hardware monopoly, so nobody can claim a cut.

It is partly the reason why their prices are that high yes, but it's more that piracy is forcing developers to release their games on the PC cheaper that i was getting at. If they could, i'm sure PC developers would LOVE to price their games as high, but if anyone did i would be shocked if many sold.

Show them Supreme Commander and shove that up there backsides.

No way in hell is some ****** football game going to need more CPU power than SC.

EA are a bunch of ****s :(

also ordinary people dont like upgrading and etc and some people cant isntall extra ram change gpu. os htey buy consoles after 5 years new one comes out they buy it its cheaper to

How many pc's get sold every year? Got to be more than the consoles combined. I think this guy is playing the numbers game. He could be right that its only 1-2% can run it if you take into acount the amount of 2 3 year old pc's about. It's still a lame excuse for a crapier fifa.

FIFA09 on PC would only be accessible to 1-3% of the PC systems on the market.

What they actually mean is that it will only run on 1-3% of PC's and crash horribly on the other 97-99%

Or, they will only produce enough licenses for it to run legally on 1-3% of PC's. :D

I wonder how many PCs crysis could run on? I believe it went platinum in 3 months.

Also why is it that pes09 is fine on the PC? Is fifa's engine that much better? Of course it isnt.

Also 1-3% of what?

Here is the steam survey data again and almost covers a whole year.

http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html

4.36% alone are quad cores. No doubt this is a lot higher now since this survey includes a lot of older systems due to its age and the fact people install it on rubbish PCs which wont even be able to run the cut down fifa 09 version.

If i can run Sup Com, on a duel core fine, im pretty damn sure i could run a crappy football game on it too. You dont need a quad core for gaming (unless super high settings on certain games)
