2008 Italian GP - Race 14/18

i will judge lewis as and when he is not sitting in the best car on the grid personally the mark of a great driver is when they can do something without the best car until then he just got into mclaren at a lucky time and has already thrown one title away and hopefully this year massa takes it

I'll drink to that Stiggy :D

ITV seem to think that Singapore is going to be Mclarens race, but last I checked it was Massa who dominated on the other 2 street tracks (until the rain/SC in Monaco), not to mention Massa seems to be sometihng of a specialist at new tracks (e.g. Bahrain, Turkey etc.)

I know rain makes races interesting, but you dont see raw driver skill. Its winning through circumstances as opposed to skill when such conditions change. Hopefully we will see dry races which will yield the true race specialist.

May the best man win ;)

Is the Mclaren the best car then? I would take the Ferrari over the Mclaren personally.

The red suits my mood so much better. :D

What? al though there is a chance of luck about pit stop times.

Wet races show who has pure driver skill and who doesn't.

yet no pics of gp2? lol gp2 is stricter on the rules than f1 is and they dont go round banging wheels either

tin top racing is quite different to open wheeled racing you know

Did you ever watch Lewis in GP2? Never went to a race so I don't have any photo's.

HK is a superb driver and look how ordinary Lewis makes him look.

There's "hype", there's "irritating fanboyism" and then there's where ITV have been on occasion. Sometimes it has been warranted - because I think even those who don't admire him would agree that the kid has serious speed. But sometimes it just hasn't been warranted at all. There have been occasions where ITV have just completely glossed over the fact that he's not been particularly good (Brazil last year being a case in point).

Don't blame him for the amount of ITV coverage he hates. It's no reason to dislike him.

I don't dislike him. I never have disliked him. I say this over and over again on this God damned forum and no bugger ever seems to listen. I've done it in italics, bold, underlined, combination of the three, bumped the font size up. What the hell do I need to do? Seriously?

Once more, with feeling....

I like Lewis Hamilton. I think he's a great driver. He's got a serious turn of speed and he isn't afraid to throw the car around. It's the detestable fanboyish element to his fan club who consider him to be the second coming of Jesus Christ Our Lord And Saviour that I cannot stand!!!

There. Got that, everyone? Or do I need to take out an advert in the national newspapers? Maybe hire someone to fly a plane up and down the country towing an advertising sign like you see at French beaches? Mind, who am I kidding....no-one on here would frappin' notice anyway. If you haven't all got the message by now then nuts to you.

Now, onwards:

Isn't it nice when a young driver wins is first race and refuses to let the media go overboard and compare him to one of the great drivers of the sport's history? ;) Very refreshing after the irritation of the British press comparing Hamilton to Senna and not hearing much in the way of demurring from the Hamilton camp.

Oh yeah, he just luckily fell into that seat.

Really bugs me when people come up with this crap. Hes in one of the best seats in F1, hes one of only 20 drivers from the entire world that are in F1. You dont just get 'given' and F1 seat. Hes there because hes good, and hes beaten or been equal with his team mate both years hes been in that seat.

What your saying is that MS was only a good driver for the breif period he was in a Jordan. After that he was just lucky to be in a good car?

Damon Hill was crap then when he won his world title, but became a great driver when he joined Jordan.

And your saying that your beloved Kimi and Massa are both pants aswell, its just the car. They should both have stayed at Sauber and not bothered with taking the seats they earnt in the good teams?

We listen but to be fair you bite better if we pretend we are not! :p

Well, you've all managed to get me just to the point of being irritated now. Keep it up into the middle of next season and I'll reach "slightly vexed". By the time Hamilton retires I may even rate "terribly cross".

:)

OMG you make me laugh!

GP2 is stricter on what rules? Obviously not the Chicane cutting, moving in the breaking zone, giving back places taken by cheating, pushing people off the road, or banging wheels judging by the Monza races, and definately not the unsafe pit release rule going on the Valencia race.

Or have you never actually watched a GP2 race and are just continuing to spurt rubbish?

Reading you loud and clear :D
And even as a Lewis fan, ITV do drive me bonkers sometimes with their over-reporting of him.
