Ironically this game appeared on "those" sites last night. So if you were naughty, then you would be getting a working copy where as those of us who bought it, could not play it until Friday due to impassable bugs fixed by the patch.
Am I missing something, why would the pirate version be any more stable than the retail?

Anoyone else stuck in the swamps?

I cant get to the cordon! Captured the base and the road leading out, then lost the machine yard again got it back but help never comes! i left it on for an hour and did nothing last night (just stood there while i watched tv) but help still not comming, so it wont let me go to the cordon now!

i'm really enjoying the game when i works! + my fps are all over the place now, from 90 to 100+ at times down to 15-20 thats on dx9 lighting and max settings! ( see sig below ) any news on patch 1.3 lol!!!??

If the steam version is patched to v1.5.04 then I suspect a lot of you will come across the numberous scripting bugs still in the game that will crash it constantly :( think it has something to do with ammo boxes filling themselves up and overflowing and the script running out of id numbers or something. Some people have attempted to fix this with another script mod but that introduces further errors later on. This happens even after starting a new game not from previous saves from 1.5.03

Hopefully there will be another patch really soon.

The games was released full of bugs, by the time the patch was released which addressed it, the naughty copy came out, which one assumes can be patched.
I see, well the people who bought it are no worse off so I wouldn't exactly call it an irony. Plus no one should be pirating it anyway, since if GSC/Deep Silver don't make enough money from it to fund future development there won't be any more Stalker games in the future. Of course it would be easier to make that case if the game was less buggy.

Got it yesterday and I'm loving ot so far, just got to Cordon.

Performance wise i've found a sweet spot. I have it 1680 x 1050 DX10 and just set the basic slider to high, you can't tell the differnce between this and very high. This gives me between 25 - 50 fps which is fine for me, remember not to judge the fps in the first clear sky base, my fps doubled (almost) after I left it and started to explore the swamps.

Some mini mods in the GSC forum and on stalkerfiles worth looking for are -

'Iron sights for pistols' - god knows why they took this out

'No loading disk' - get rid of the little disk on the corner

'no headbob' - made me feel queezy!

'no crosshair' - replaces it with a single pixel dot.

:)

Got any links for the mods?

Can't access the CS forum, just comes up with "all messages"...

This game is a prime example to pirate, no way am I going to spend my cash on such a buggy game that is basically being BETA tested by us.

Sorry you missed it. We, as in the people who bought it at release, played the game until an unsurmountable bug caused you to stop playing. This was rectified in the patch 1.5.04 which force you to start playing from the start agian, which was released just prior to the pirate version. Hense the irony being that pirates did not have to put up with the bug but got a bug free game thanks to the buyers beta testing it.

I really cant be bothered to play it at all now and cant wait for the new Crysis.

I bought it at release, preordered in fact. I also bought SOC. If anyone beta tested Clear Sky it was russian players, not you. 1.5.0.4 was out in russia before the UK retail release. Also 1.5.0.4 was out here before the game was leaked. Also 1.5.0.4 is still too buggy to play IMO (if you think it's bug free you might want to read the last few pages here), so no one has any advantage, apart from the advantage of not paying which pirates always have. So again I see no irony.

So when there's finally a stable version you promise to buy it? Piracy is such a simple issue really - the money you spend buying a game is the money that company makes the next game with. Enough people don't buy it, they go bust.

I personally enjoyed SOC enough to give GSC all the time they need to get Clear Sky stable and working right. I know how good it will be when it's fixed and I still want to buy their games in the future, even though I know they will always be buggy at release. SOC is still buggy now, there's at least one main quest braking bug, but it's well worth buying and playing despite the bugs. They have a talent for making atmospheric worlds I want to explore, even if they don't have a talent for QA :)

You don't want to be reading the Graphics card shootout with Stalker - Clear sky over at Guru3d..

It seems the 4870x2 was running slower than a single card 4870 with 512mb ram.. The 280 Overclocked card came out tops.. - Shame really as I just bought a 4870x2 also..

I have neither, I don't want to play a buggy game for days having to start again after a patch.

As said before, BETA testing is fine, but not with a retail version you have to pay for.

No, quite right, it's not bug free now at all. I still get starting in an odd windowed mode, some CTD, as I announced after I annouced the release of the patch and posted the links to it in this very thread. However, it is now possible to progress through the game where prior to patch release it was not.

The Irony is, this state of affairs was reached just after the game was pirated, therefore allowing the pirate copies to be at least more playable than the Pre-ordered ones sent out the day it was released here(yes I too pre ordered it, several months ago!). You must be an American if you cant see that as slightly ironic.

Well ive only been testing out gfx settings so far (so only been running around the camp you start in) as im not gona start it till i get the first one out of the way, but i found i can have it all maxed out at Enhanced Full Dynamic Lighting (in 1280x1024 and Dx9 as im on XP) with only the sun shadows off and it absolutely belts along, and still looks great imo. :)

Im actually surprised we can't run it at about 50 million fps, as its been out for nearly 40 years according to Steam, as i right clicked it to see when the last update for it was, and it says Stalker Clear Sky last update December 31st 1969!!!

:D

Btw, guy that done Float32 is gona have some CS stuff to show this week. :)
