Well, seems GTX280 prices have rocketed again...

maybe a little but the rate was around the 1.98 mark your now looking around 1.78 its effects a lot of things.

So a 0.20 drop is causing a £60 rise? I think not, I feel it’s a case of one shop trying to make more of a profit buy raising there prices then the rest follow.

I bought an EVGA 280GTX yesterday, after hesitating for a few months on whether the prices would drop further.

Im very glad i bought one when i did, its gone up by £40 today!

Although it does seem like at the moment OcUK are the only company who's prices have jumped significantly. I guess the other retailers will soon follow suit.

hmm yeah well i was about to buy a 280 too this week but i now need another 40 quid on top of what i have now, just about scraped the 264 for the evga one oh well will have to wait till next payday now.

No explaining needed really he has to buy his stock at higher prices now so prices will rise its the way off life its not just happening in ocuk its happening in all other shops like supermarkets. Our shopping bill has went up quite a lot over the last few months due to rising prices. A company has to make profits thats all there is to it if they start losing money then bosses won't be happy as thats what retail company's are for. I don't think ocuk want there prices to start rising as it does not look good for them but if they do it probably is forced upon them. Imo Gibbo does a good job at finding the good priced stock and also does a good job of promoting it.

well the gtx 260 is looking a better deal now then at only 164.99 you could get 2 of these in sli for only 25 quid more than one 280

i think gibbo has to do some explaining. and no $ bs as should be increased like that

Why? OcUK is a business, they have to make money or they dont exist.

If people don't like the price of something then the chances are they simply won't pay it.

One thing worth a mention is that altho they have gone up in price due to the weakening pound, OC have been cheaper than other etailors by quite some margain for a while now (having had a brief look round the usual main suspects).

I imagine a few people are kicking themselves now who decided they'd wait just in case of a price dropped. Or those that listened to the "wait for the 280+, it's out next month".

Quit with the handbags ladies, your both making yourselves look like fools.

Don't be surprised, they may even go down again with the economy shafted and them needing to move their stock :D

p.s. All I know is... my 3870 runs every game I need to at 1280 beautifully including GRID on my 42" plasma. Since I didn't need to upgrade I bought some nice Work's split rims, some Z32 brakes, hub converters, braided lines, alloy rad, downpipes, decat silencer for my S13... and I feel hell of a lot better than debating the whether I should have got the 4870 or the 280 :p

Gibbo wont be able to explain as hes to busy e-mailing all customers who bought 280's within the last few weeks before the price increase letting them know that hes now going to debit them for the extra. :p

You'd think by now people would have realised that the time to upgrade your GPU is when you need to do it, not becuase you have £300 spare and can't sleep until you spend it on something shiny on the internet - then suffer buyers remorse/whine about price drops, post purchase.

If people just bought a GPU when they needed one then we would not see 1,001 "Should i wait until.....comes out?" threads, the more i read this board, the more i relaise people are very often just buying things for the sake of it.

all NV stuff seems to have gone up in price

the 790i boards have gone up a good £30-40 in most places

Hi there

Stock we had previously purchased at a much lower price, Leadtek, Gainward and BFG all sold to us at a loss due to such poor sales in August. Now they have all increased pricing, well basically they are no longer selling at a loss, plus the fact the dollar rate has dropped.

The dollar rate itself is responsible for approx £30 of the increase, the rest is due to us paying more for new stock. September is busier and as such manufacturers don't need to cut such deals where they loose money.

Fact is OcUK selling GTX 280's at £209+VAT was a very very special price which most of our competitors could not touch except for those who also got in on the same deal or just decided to sell at a loss to remain competitive.

What we need is the dollar rate to move back in favour and for some stunning deals to come about, at the moment its just not happening.

Fact is prices don't always go down, no matter how much you want them too, they do indeed sometimes go up as well.

a lot of things have increased in price, not just from OcUK either as I shop around for best prices.

My 8800GTX will keep me going till prices reduce significantly - I don't care how long it takes, but don't give in to stupid price increases.

Morale of the story is, be patient if everyone stops buying they will have to reduce prices.
