Crysis Warhead - Gone Gold

I am a bit annoyed though, the game is meant to be out today, the big high street game stores wont sell it though, the copies are there.

I'm going to print out the Warhead website and take it there because the game is out today :/

It's not mean't to be out today though in retail so why should they sell it to you? Games are always released on Fridays or, in exceptional circumstances, Tuesday.

As for the Steam release date, it says world wide release on the 18th - don't think it specifies which time zone thats in. I think it's fair to say though that since everything else on the Steam site is american that the dates they put up are based on PST time, so it will be the 18th when it is released.

I'm more annoyed at the lack of a pre-load than anything though, although that's Crytek/EA's fault if they don't provide Valve with it - Valve has given Steam the functionality to offer this but it's up to the developer to actually implement it. :o

Should be interesting to see how much better it runs (if at all).

(Mostly posting this to get more posts in this thread rather than "official" cack).

Got it this morning.

Still installing...........

Takes absolute ages after about 10 mins still only installed 20%. Also comes with 2 x DVD's.

1 for Warhead and 1 for Crysis Wars online which requires the DVD in the drive at all times (according to the manual).

No idea on how the DRM is and not got that far yet!

Seems hit and miss with the retails copies ... some have theirs today and some such as myself haven't even got a confirmation of postage email !

Hopefully they are posting it today and it will arrive tomorrow!!

So much for my idea of preordering it from steam and preloading it so I could play it as soon as it was released ie today...I should have just gotten a hard copy.

Well, i'm generalising here - not sure how many gamers may be on limited ISP packages, I know i'm not - but due to where I live I have a 1Mb connection, the distance from the exchange and rural location dont allow any better. :(

So for me to pull it down on steam, even at top speed would take around 20hours for 8Gb, so a release date on 19th means id be looking at the 20th at best to play it, and seeing as I dont know if i'll like it or want to keep it - i'd rather have a physical copy for resale later!

I wouldnt pay £20 for a film that I could only watch 3 times, or can watch as much as I like but never sell - so why should I do it for a game?
I agree with you to why on earth people buy games on steam. It's usually more expensive and you can’t sell it which is something I always do with shooters which take about 6hrs to finish.

I figured something out! in STEAM if you preprchased Warhead go into the My Games section and hit CTRL+5+2+L it begins to download the game!

Now installed it. Took about 20 mins in all. DRM is seamless you enter your serial no at the install start then it auto activates.

DVD not required to play single player after install.

The opening movie is probably the greatest the PC has yet seen. Truly incredible looking and most of it is ingame engine (some of it looking like Crysis promised way back when).

Game is not super smooth for me so far on Enthusiast Settings @ 1360x768 on a 4870 + Q9450 DX10 with x24AA + max gfx but still around 20-25FPS and lot better than Crysis but think people on low spec machines will have to turn the details down a lot again.

Have not got far into the game but the gfx so far are definately a big step up from Crysis and lots of shader FX & DOF which are quite well done.

Off to play it some more now + got PS3 The Force Unleashed as well:D

Would not advise anyone to get from Steam as retail is usually cheaper + you get reward points + you get a physical copy + you get usually 1-2 days earlier than street date.
