Hi guys. I currently have my Q9550 running at 3.6 on a Rampage Extreme with a Thermalright TRUE Black/2x 120mm antec fans on it.

The cpu is revision C1.

Is the C1 the main factor that is limiting me from getting any higher with stability?
Ram is OCZ Reaper 1600.

Jonny, I have booted into windows successfully at 4.0 with this chip but its not real stable. 3.6 for me seems to be the sweet spot on a 427 bus speed.

What voltages are you running at, what is your VID? I run mine stable at 3.6 with only 1.21 volts can get into windows at 4.1Ghz but the system is unstable. In my experience on my p5Q deluxe over 425FSB then the chipset is unstable. So although you have a different chipset i expect the story is similarbut cant really say till you let us know your settings

quad clocking is all down to the chipset. could get 440FSB on my DFI JNR before id even tried tweaking anything or pu tthe voltage above 1.25V for the chipset.

I'll try to up it some tonight and see if I can squeeze any more. My AS5 will be broken in now.
Any reason why, I type in 1.4v for the NB manually and it stays at 1.34?

The P5Q Deluxe will do 500mhz with a 45nm quad

Still trying to set my memory/fsb ratio. It defaults to like 16:4 or some wierd number. Not sure how to make it 1:1 like you have.
I am by no means an experienced overclock er =/ so I may have some bios settings wrong.

I am running at memory 1387 or something in the bios to get the lower timings. Should I maybe up it to 1600 or something?

You've a DDR3 board, so there's no real reason to go as low as 1:1.

Set the Strap to auto, and set DRAM Frequency to a low setting.

Ah ok. So you are saying to take it even lower the the 1387 or whatever I have it set at now then.
I will try that. Wont I loose memory bandwith though going lower?

Which DDR3 do you have?

Don't worry about memory bandwidth til you've finished overclocking the CPU. Keep the DRAM Freq low until you're happy with the CPU, and then once you're happy with it you can worry about your memory.

You're running below spec, so it won't be the memory that's stopping your CPU overclock atm.

It is. I was able to run 488x8 at 1.41v and much lower chipset voltages.

hmm well that is good that it is not the memory.
Volts seem to be good at the cpu level.

Any suggestions to try to get a little more out of it?

I'll try to up the fsb and keep the memory around the same speed as it is now again. Now that I offloaded some of the psu burden and my AS5 paste is broken in.
Also, do you know why when I manually set the nb voltage to 1.4, it still reads at 1.34. Shouldnt it set itself to 1.4 since I told it to use it?

Have you tried dropping the CPU multiplier to x6 to see if it will go over 425mhz? That's the easiest way of telling if it's the board or the CPU that's holding you back.

No I have not tried that.

I will drop it and then increase the fsb to see if it will go any higher.

So theoretically, by lowering the multiplier and upping the fsb to get it back to 3.6 would rule out the board being the problem correct?
If that works then it would be the cpu does not like any higher correct?
