Devastated.

Not a good time to become a RM worker if I’m honest, there are some big changes in force and it’s getting worse, it’s a hard very hard job to be in atm, if you think you turn up and take a bag of mail out and finish at 12 you can think again.

Why did you have to take a medical?

Got beat up in march and got my skull fractured in 3 places.

on the application form it asked if i had head injuries within the last how ever many years, and i had to tick that box.

The job im down for is a postman with driving. the job would primarily be driving back and forth. although they like to have you on the streets for the first 12 weeks or something to see that side of it.

I worked for the council for 5 years so i know my town like the back of my hand. Posting letters would be pretty laid back i reckon

Ah I see, sorry to hear that!

Sorry but it will be far from Laid back, being new you will have they worse walks in the office, under new rules each walk has to be a 3.5hr delivery span coming up to Christmas it gets crazy I can put my hand on my heart and say you will be in for a big shock if you think it will be laid back, there is huge pressure on us RM staff atm. If you stick to the rules and work to the guidelines and don’t let management shaft you will be okay. If you do get in join the union asap :) And good luck, it can be a rewarding job.

I'm sure it'll be fine, it's just a mistake, if they like you they won't let you slip by because of a silly thing like this.

Even if it all does fall through, there will be other jobs. I missed out on a dream job with BAE SYSTEMS by a tiny margin, but a month or 2 later and I work for IBM. Just keep calm and keep searching. No point having a heart attack over it.

Maybe laid back was the wrong idea then :D

well fingers crossed i can make some progress with them anyway. I got on well with the bloke that interviewed me. And i liked the idea of it all.

Funny how the company that specialises in delivering letters... doesnt actually do any communication by mail itself! haha

Just read a desecription on in the next town and it shocking,

Do you enjoy working as a team as well as alone? Are you passionate about customer service?

Royal Mail are now recruiting Postmen/Postwomen to sort and deliver the mail. If you are able to work to tight deadlines while maintaining a professional and positive image, you are the type of person we’re looking for.

Hours of work: 25 hours per week - 5 days across Monday to Saturday - 9:30 to 14:30

You will start by sorting the mail in a loud, busy environment, arranging the mail so you can deliver it accurately later on. You will work in all weathers delivering mail on foot or by bike. You will travel 6 to 8 miles each day carrying around 8 heavy mailbags a day (weighing up to 16kg).

As part of your duty you may be expected to ride a bicycle confidently in all weathers and in heavy traffic.

The role involves working at offices in the surrounding area covering delivery roles. You must be flexible and able to travel to different offices at short notice.

You need to consider how you will get to work each morning, as public transport may not be available that early in the day.

Thats a lot of work for considering they can just ship you off to different offices.

I'm not sure I'd call that a dream job myself, but fair enough. Just call them and sort it out. :)

I'm applying for the temporary sorting office roles locally at RM, hopefully it'll bring in some more money over the holiday period and give me leads on a better job than I have now

You get your good and bad days, just you seem to get more bad then good thesedays :D

Yeah it’s a funny system they have now, everything is online, you do the online sorting test have and your own section online. Just a way of cutting down on staff and money under the new modernisation scheme it seems. Like I say it’s not a walk in the park, but being outdoors being your own boss if you like is excellent I couldn’t see myself stuck in an office all day  you are outside meeting the local community on a daily basis talking to most, you form some good friend and get to know a lot of local gossip! :D Just seems to be going downhill, RM have got them self’s in a hole they have cut staff and added loads more pressure on us staff, defiantly a job for the strong minded, takes a special sort to become a postie :D :D

Typical royalmail and its crappy recruitment procedure!
I gave up on applying, you have to do some silly test now on there web site, you also have to do some lame ass interview with some call centre person and if u pass that the rest is done via email. how crap!

I cant believe they didn't wright to you once.

Thanks for the posts Fothsn anyway :)

Like you say, everything in the process has been done online for me up to this point.. They emailed me telling I would be required for a medical, and that they would contact me with the appointment soon...

then they never did. and it unfolded like ive already mentioned.

Whats annoying is that i was waiting for a medical appointment. And being so keen i was impatient and asked them how long it would be... then they say 6 weeks.. then the week later they say ive missed it lol.

It’s not a silly test, filters a lot of people not suitable for the job, it’s only a postcode and sorting test (Well was the last I looked) hardly rocket science.

Yeah not one part of it is done via Post. there is NO paper evidence at all.

What they do is they test you online.. then get you an interview date.. email you the details of the interview, and then attach 4 pdf files. Which you need to print out yourself, fill in. and take to the interview.

You also need to take photocopies of your passport, drivers licence, and national insurance number.

Then again, when you prove successful from interview stage. you still dont even get a letter through your door. just another chuffing email!

Sorry but I just find it all a load of old ******S

It was a faff on, but i wanted the job so i was happy to do it. Its good in that respect. Because it filters out people who think "sod this crap!"

Exactly! :D No office but the guy moaning if he wanted the job and was determined to get it he would have done the test, seems it’s done its job.

That sucks. Their communication skills are appalling, no wonder my post turns up at 4pm somedays. This country blows chunks.

:(

PS: I hope get sorted sometime soon.

Hmmm, a stuff up and ATOS are involved... I wish I was surprised :( (deal with them a lot in my work, useless bunch).

Ive just phoned them up.

they told me that their system is currently down and they would phone me back later. They dont sound too good!
