This is interesting - can show you us where this is the case?

Fox am sick of showing people it. The 260 can not beat a 280 but a 4870 can in certain games look at any review each will show you games such as grid where the 4870 beats all cards bar the 4870x2.

On the subject of the 4870 love fest how does one compared to a pair of 8800 gts 320's in sli?

I really love the look of the pair of big 8800's but a new monitor coming at xmas may start taking its toll.

of course a pair of 4870's would look decent but i hear bad things about crossfire.

And whatabout fan noise levels of each of the above cards?

the 260 and 4870 stock fans aren't great, both run very hot on stock speeds, i use rivatuner 2.11 to put the fan at 27% which isn't audiable over my system which is quite quiet, it runs at 50 degrees idle at that which isnt bad.

Well seems like 4870 is the card of choice (was planning to go for a 4850 at one point)... and as such...

Ive ended up going for a 9800 GX2 :D

(Only cause I got one cheaper :D)

Hehe sorry :) Actually I had my mind set on a 4870 but there was a good deal in the sale fourm.

Better performance than the 4870 for a cheaper price... cant be bad can it?

I would have just gone 4870 games that dont have the SLI profile will run at 8800GT speeds.

Whereas the 4870 not only would have given you resale value but the option of getting another.

Gx2 is old tech and at 165 he was lucky to get that for that card TBH.

So your saying it was a bad buy on my part easy?

I'm sure its probably been asked a hundred times but... heyho :D

Looking to upgrade my BFG 8800 GTX OC1. Considering either a 4870 or a GTX 260.

Which should I go for? Please give me your opinions :)

4870.

BFG sent me a GTX260 as replacement for my 8800GTX and it gets pretty much the same score in 3DMark06. I have noticed a FPS increase, however my brother's 4870 still outperforms my GTX260.

Reading some of the reviews I think I made the right choice. Im not into SLI/Xfire-ing two cards together, rather bung in one card and get it over and done with.

In addition:

Beats the 4870, but then yes you can CF two 4870s (but as I said I wont be doing that).

In addition, http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3340&p=3 shows it fairs well againt the 4870 in crysis (even in CF) (although Crysis loves its shaders/nvidia cards).

I think for its price, its decent provided that a 4870 1GB costs 180 odd quid anyway.

Ofcourse some games as you say dont scale well with it, but so be it...
