Well I can't see you getting anywhere near 3.6ghz on the x6 multi (you'd need 600mhz FSB), but if you can get over say 450mhz then you can rule out the motherboard (I would expect an X48 board to be able to take a 45nm quad to ~470mhz FSB).
Remember to lower the RAM ratio so that you're not pushing it out of spec as you raise the FSB.
