He's a pretty high ranking electrical engineer who was working on the Sour Gas Injection project in Tengiz, not sure how much he knows about the country itself, but i dont mind asking if you need to know anything

I've never been to either, but I really enjoyed the book "Apples are from Kazakhstan" by Christopher Robbins. Apples are indeed from Kazakhstan.

Not been to either yet, but I'm over in China for a year, and me and a few friends are considering a trip to Mongolia when we get a decent length break, so I'd also be interested to hear of anyone's experiences

If I ever get my passport back off the police, that is, I think it's lost forever in a sea of bureaucracy...
