gtx280 or 4870 1gb

The same reason why people can't grasp that for less than 1 card (GTX 280) you can get 2 better performers (4850).

:)

2 Cards today is still not my or many others 1st Choice.

The Single Core/Card will have 100% support which 2 do not have as SLI and Crossfire can be a PIA.

Some day I hope it changes but for now its the fastest Single Core/card is best in all games over 2 Cores/Cards in some games.

Regardless this thread is well off topic, the OP is asking about the 2 Single Core/Cards so keep to it. :)

No it's not, it's the 4870X2.

Why do you create your own criteria just because you look at everything with a green tint? No one turns around and says "oh yeah, the FXxx CPU is the fastest CPU on earth, bar the dual, quad etc cores"

Every thread is off topic to you unless posts are pro Nvidia.

4870X2 is the fastest single card.

Have the cash for any one of theese two cards this week, few questions guys.
I game at 1920x1200, my current gts 512 just aint up to the job at this res. first off, is the 1gb version of the 4870 worth the extra money over the 512mb variant, which card runs the coolest and which overclocks better and what card would be more future proof what with new games like far cry2, crysis warhead etc. havent paid much attention to graphics cards lately so id appreciate any advice and opinions from users of both theese cards:)

I paid less than £220 for 2x4850s which run everything smoothly at 1920x1200 including Crysis and Crysis Warhead.

If you want to stick to single cards, I personally would get a 4870 or if you want to spend more then a GTX 280 or a 4870X2 if you have >£300. If you wait for a card, it should be the 4850X2, not a rumoured Nvidia card.

Why do you talk RUBBISH, where am I sticking up for Nvidia ?, and when do I even post in a thread about solely ATI.

Your a bare faced liar TBH and you need go to Specsavers as he is not even talking about a 4870X2.

The OP wants to know about the 1GB version of the 4870 and the GTX280, can you not read ?.

Where does he state anything about the 4870X2 card ?

QUOTED :

BACK on Topic of his choice of the 2 Single Core/Cards please. :)

For that res I would get a 4870X2 the 280 is priced to high for what it is and the 4870 1GB is not worth the extra

I think your mobo though supports Xfire 2x8 so I would get 2 x 4850's for just over 200 and xfire them.

You made a statement that the GTX 280 is the fastest single card...no it's not.

And if your posts are not biased towards then green, then the world is flat.

Your full of it, I never said anything about the GTX280 and speed.

I did state a Single Core/Card is better supported than a Dual Core/Card that is still SLI or Crossfire, you don't seem to grasp that.

The topic is not the 4780X2 so stop talking rubbish and making up lies about my above posts or I will report you.

You alone in this thread are spoiling it for the OP and have not gave 1 post of help to him.

No, but for telling blatent lies about my posts and putting a thread off topic when the op is not asking about a card you seem addement he is (4870X2).

Maybe you have never heard of a phrase which goes something like "think outside the box".

I made my recommendation, similiar to easyrider's.

Can you not accept that people in the world have differing opinions?

I accept lots but not your lies about my posts (I'm having to repeat again as you cant grasp).

Also he did not ask for additional input, he asked about 2 specific cards something you seem to contest claiming he asked about a 4870X2 (he did not and proof is in his post).

The thread was stable until you came along TBH. :)

Is your answer the gospel ?.

He did not even ask about the card you stated.

Why not answer on topic for once unless he asks for other additional input ?.

Just because someone doesn't ask about a certain card does not mean I can't mention it in my answer especially when its the correct path to take at that high resolution. Why leave someone in the dark just because they haven't mentioned something?

Maybe the OP was not aware he could Xfire 2 x 4850's hence why he hasn't mentioned it....Thought about that helmetcheese?

So my post was on topic.

The best choice at 1900x1200 for around the price of the 4870 1GB is 2x 4850 in xfire.

So to the OP to answer your question for the second time GTX280 or 48701GB?

Neither get 2 x 4850's and have a faster gaming experience than GTX 280 and 4870 1GB for less money,

You have this mobo:

Get two of these:

I had the same dilemma, and waited a while....

....until the Ati 4870 1GB finally came out. I bought that pretty much straight away.

I game at high res (1920x1200 with lots of AA) so wanted a little future proofing, hence the 1GB cards.

The 280 is supposedly a bit faster but more expensive with it. For me the 4870 was the ideal price point, especially at the TWO price it is at the moment.

I also have P45 board, so always have the option of getting a 2nd if needed. However, with a single card I don't have to worry about the game having to support crossfire to get decent speeds (or the crossfire drivers supporting the game, which ever way it works ;) ).

Also the fact that I believe ATI cards support hardware decoding of BluRay better swung it for me.

So for me it was 4870 1GB. All depends on how much you want to go up to, or if you want best bang for buck (and if you would consider dual cards) etc.

Hope thats of some help?
