Anyone want a game of '08? I need to see whether I've completed lost it or everyone I'm playing is a total rambo. Can't remember the last time I won a game! It's driving me mad!

Ill give you a game once i finish this game of poker if you like.

I played my first game since about june last night (since i got euro 2008), i quickly went 3-0, but pulled it back to 3-2 in a game i really should have won, you only need 5 minutes to get back on track.

I've also started to struggle, I'll play you tomorrow?
What time mate?

Yeah gimme a shout when your ready mate.

Well played Mark.

I've gotta say the 2 times you brought the keeper out were strokes of genius! Totally unexpected and threw me off on both occasions! :o

Just made a very sexy bicycle kick goal with Chelsea :) Can't wait for the release of this bad boy :D

By the way - I also played a game where I was up 2-0 and the other team had a corner, and thier goalie legged it up and tried to header it in  Anyone else had this before?! Awesome :D

There's a review in Xbox 360 World - just picked it up today.

To summarise:

81% - main comments are its slower than FIFA08 - matches can get dull and bogged down in midfield battles - but some of the 18 yard box action can be very good - excellent collision system and injury system. Their panel of 'experts' say its a little bit too similar to FIFA08 and not close enough to UEFA 08.
+ Best Physics Yet
+ Its Real Football
- Warts and All.

Personally I was hoping for better (it doesn't like the game I've been playing in the demo). Without wanting to be flamed but I'm hoping PES is better - not out of Fanboyism but because it'd be sad if the next gen consoles didn't have a football game worthy of 90%+ review scores.

WTF? No way is it slower. We can all see that from playing the demo.

Yeah I had it once, I thought it was awesome as well :)

I agree with that review, well done to them.

I said in here previously that I enjoy the pc demo more than the ps3 demo.

How many people have tried the pc version on a 32" lcd, instead of their 19-21" monitor.

This is not console/Fifa bashing... I think its a clever ploy from EA with all this 'next-gen' malarky regarding the 360 and ps3 version.

Personally, the response, feel and gameplay is lacking.

Another goal I scored with Drogba, I liked the way it came off the bar. It looked great when I scored it. One of those ones that make you go "WHOAAAAA" out loud :)

I love the GK animation when they have given up on a shot because they know they can't get to it.

I don't really understand what you're saying! The review was for the 360 version!

What EA ploy are you talking about?

For me, the game is more than responsive, the feel is perfect, and I don't remember the last time I got home from work and was so excited to boot up a demo. This game is close to perfect for me, based on the demo.

What is the difference with the 360 and ps3 version ?

I'm sure the ps3 mag has also given FIfa '09 81% ?

I feel there hasn't been enough of a change from '08 with regards to the aspects that make a good footy game for me.

The overall feel is to uncomfortable.

I don't detect a massive difference with the next-gen gameplay compared to the inferior pc version.

2009 has just refined 08's poor points, I don't understand this thing of not feeling in control of your players, it's not like PES where the ball is always stuck to your feet. Real football is not like this.

You Sir, are a god amoungst men! Now if only I could convince all my pes loving mates of this fact. :p

Same here. More or less everything is spot on for me.

I'll even go as far as saying I may even prefer this from my favourite footy game which was PES 5...and all this just from the demo!

Same as any footie game you're new to, play games on the easiest setting until you're destroying teams easily.

The amount of attacking you will do should give you a decent idea of what types of shots are most effective. I have nothing to back this up, but I fully believe that when people moan about any footie game being too hard it's because they're not picking up on which types of shots to go for. We're past the days where footie games had one or two shots that were guaranteed to go in every time, but each footie game still has it's nuances which tell you what type of attempts are even worth bothering with in the first place.

Once you start moving up through the levels you will still have to learn how best to develop play each time, but knowing what you're aiming for should mean once you start creating chances you will take them. I've never liked using crosses as my main plan of attack (except maybe on Virtua Striker), they're useful on the break and I'll take them if the chance is on, but in general play there are far more effective ways of putting the ball away.

OK taking this advice on board I went back to beginner mode from intermediate and found scoring a lot easier. It seems scoring with the finesse shot is the way to go but the problem is its a little too easy on beginner. You can cut straight through the middle of their defence with simple one two's far too easily, you can even dribble with 1 man past 2 or 3 defenders and tuck it past the keeper, these tactics don't work particularly well on intermediate. I'm finding I get closed down quite quickly and its much harder to pick a decent pass, maybe I need to be more patient with the build up

I have to admit I had a similar problem on FIFA 08, playing online I had to rely on my defence which is generally quite strong. Occasionally things would just click and I'd have an awesome game but usually I'd end up losing 1-0. :(

It is too easy on beginner, but you're not really learning to play the game yet. What it should do this is give you an idea of how to put the ball away, so that when you do step up a level you're not wasting one of the few chances you have on a shot that had little chance of going in.

Learning to develop play on the higher difficulty levels only comes with practice, but knowing what you're aiming to do will be a big help. I usually learn footie games by playing tournaments, group stage then knockout. I find this way best for making you feel like you're progressing as you can get by with drawing games and getting a scrappy 1 - 0 win somewhere. Just playing the series of games should make you stronger, and while it's practically impossible to win it first time you should feel like you can do better each time you try.

Aside from that I don't really know of any way of getting better at the game other than practice, and playing tournaments is the only way I've gotten enjoyment out of the time where I'm **** at the game.

Hmm POM UK has supposedly given it 90% for the PES3 version...

BTW Im new to the latest FIFA series (last one I properly hammered on console was 99) - the controls have changed radically - is there some kind of crib sheet that lets me know what all the combinations do?

Ive seen some trick demos, but Im after the normal nuts and bolts...

TBH, I use the basic controll, they're not really advanced at all.

You have the usual, pass, tackle/cross, shoot and through ball as your 4 "main" buttons.
The triggers are run fast and lob and your shoulder buttons are shooting finesse and placement.

Triggers and buttons depend on your configuration setting, I use New Alternate so it swaps the triggers with the buttons.

The right anaolgue stick is your skills but I rarely use this and am pretty good at the game. Rarely lose.

Cheers for that...

I did mean more the whole key combinations - chip shot or through ball with player running into space, 1-2s...

Must admit I didnt know about the placement button

Im still used to X allowing me to change player :p

Ahh, well learning the pass and run button is essential to get good at the game, it's LB+Pass, the player passes and runs, opens up so much space and passing options, obviously it's great for 1,2's too although there is an actual button for 1,2's I just don't like using it.

The left trigger can be used for lobbed shooting, lobbed through balls etc. Lobbed shots are essentially very hard! Quite hard to dertimine how much power to put on shots, I stay away from this.
Also fake shooting is a very good trick, basically press shoot so the power bar appears then press the pass button and left or right.

I swear by double tapped crossing (cross x2) sends a high powerful cross into the box, easy to header, or trebble tap (cross x3) where it's sent in low and very hard.

Two tricks I use with the right analogue is pressing it the direction your running knocks it more in front of you, very good at knocking it past people but you have to get the timing correct. Also the drag to left or right you can beat players easily.

By the way I tought myself all of this, never read the manual so get practising!!

Remember this is with my New Alternate config :)
