Hello all,

I've been offered a 50D at a stupidly good price!

How does it compare to the 40D - I think I read somewhere that due to the larger MP it can't cache as much data so can't shoot for as long as the 40D or something.

Is it worth the extra over the 40D?

Thanks :)

Hope this helps, I would go for the 50D tbh. Canon only get better :)

The 50D is only marginally better than the 40D really. Some fine tuning but nothing to make or break the deal. It would all come down to cost for me

From the specs the frame rate and buffer depth are indeed slighty lower on the 50 than the 40 but the differences are sufficiently small that this should not be an issue under most circumstances.

Having said that, the difference between the 2 cameras is not vast and unless you really need the extra megapixels and the price is very close indeed to the 40 you would be better spending the extra money on glass or other bits of kit.

I was talking to Fstop last night, decided to go with a 40D and spend the money saved on some glass :)

ahhh how i love secret "OMFG IT'S SO MEGA CHEAP IT'S PRACTICALLY FREE" threads that turn out to be not so cheap ahaha.

Should've kept the 350D, got the glass, then when its all cheaper buy it. Then you have all your kit. I did tell you that :(.

Having owned the 20,30,40 and 350D I advised him a body upgrade is worthwhile because the 350D is very limiting. I find it incredibly hard to use having started off with the 20D. I know its bad to blame your tools but there is no doubt that a 40D is a considierable upgrade to the 350D which I believe will give better images as the AF is dependable where as the the 350D it can be hit n miss esp when your into a moving enviroment. Jacob also has done photographs of his mates gig where a high ISO is going to needed where the 350D is going to just churn out parp.
The 40D probably wont get much cheaper, its just going to phase out.

True, guess it does depend on his plans for the glass too though! If he only wants a few certain lenses, may as well do it.

I've still got the 350D. Although it is being sent off next week for some surgery ;)

To be fair mate, you have no idea on the price I was offered, and I'm not going to post it on here either. Fstop11 knows the price and he thought it was an excellent bargain.

Get your facts straight ;)

i just dont see what the point of the thread is if you dont say how much you can get it for? How are we possibly supposed to guage whether or not it is worth it or not if you can't give the details.

it's not as if everyone is going to go "OMG WOOOOOOOW NO WAY SO CHEAP OMG GIVE ME OMG TELL ME OMG ETC" and then never stop hounding you for eternity.

Anyway, whatever.

Anyway, whatever.

I remember when the 50D came out a lot of people were saying it wasn't really that much of a worthy upgrade, hence the question, would they have a 50D or save cash and buy the 40D - regardless of the price I had been offered.

to be fair, you never told us .

Only to protect those that are involved :)

Anyway, it's going to be the 40D anyway, now I just need to pick a lens :D
