Everyone has a different style. Mine is a firm pressing of the flesh and then letting go. No wish for lingering contact with near strangers :)

This one bloke at work goes for the hand crushing approach. You can literally see the pain on peoples faces. Why bother doing that ?

Firm, but short here. I don't 'grab' it, just push down securely, then let go. No need to shake for more than 4 seconds I feel ..

And yeah... there is always one who wants to 'crush' people, probably realizes it too :/

Firm but not hard, 2-3 shakes ( or sometimes a simple clasp with 1/no shake ) with eye contact & smile is best.

I remember my dad giving me handshake lessons when i was young, and demonstrating the "wet fish" a limp shake is much worse than one thats too firm.
Its actually quite gross shaking a limp hand :O

A reasonable grip is confident and friendly.

My hand shake is pretty firm, but I'm sometimes a bit paranoid that I might be doing a bonecrusher. I think it would be worse to have a flimsy handshake though.

Handshakes - disgusting custom, think of all those germs being passed around  Since I have to do it I generally try for a bonecrusher but think I fail mostly...

I agree. I have to meet a lot of people in my job and I do hate handshaking, the germs!! I swear we could reduce sick rates significantly by stopping handshaking.

At the earliest opportunity I always wash my hands after having shaken hands. I rarely get sick these days, not had a day off work in 4 years.

So if you had your way, no human would ever touch another human?

Not unless they'd been de-loused and disinfected first ;)

Seriously, of course not, but I think it's a good general rule that the fewer people we come into close physical contact the better.

I'd guess the opposite. Stopping as many germs spreading as possible will reduce the strength of our immune systems and so people will be more likely to get ill more frequently.

I disagree and say the more the better.

Unless you've got an open wound on your hand or arms, how can you possibly become ill by a handshake? Unless of course you don't wash your hands before eating, but that's a different story entirely.

Picking one's nose/ear/bum for a start! Sweat, saliva, penis debris also.
