2008 Singapore GP - Race 15/18

You know what, buttercup? You just have to stop talking. You're giving the rest of us so-called Anti-Messiah™ posters a bad name with the crap you come out with at times.

Any halfway sensible viewer of F1 who happens not to support Lewis would at least admit that the kid is pretty ******* good. He's not Senna. He's not Schumacher. He's Lewis Hamilton, and he has the potential to set records that no bugger will ever match if he sticks at the game long enough.

Now, potential. There's a word that gets horribly misused. Most of the British media seem to think that because he has potential, he's already won ten championships. This is where my irritation with those hooting dicks on TV and in the papers (and yes, on more than one internet forum) comes in, and this has led to me being accused of all manner of bizarre things. Memphis, Wicksta and sunama (sorry guys, you were the three I could remember after 'several' pints of bitter) have all taken shots at me for it - Memphis apologised and I apologised back, Wicksta seems to be generally staying out of my way and I out of his way, and sunama....well, we're still civil even when we're on opposite sides of the debate. That has to count for something.

I can't quite fathom you out, though. On odd occasions you make a reasonable amount of sense. Rather more often, you post stuff that makes me wonder how you remember to breathe in after exhaling. It's very confusing.

it was a joke for heavens sake, take note of the smiley :p
i doubt he will get near michaels records to be honest f1 is far too competitive now to let that happen
i think vettel would beat lewis given a equal car maybe even kubica too

you dont have him on ignore?

So why wasn't it funny, then?

i doubt he will get near michaels records to be honest f1 is far too competitive now to let that happen

Yeah, right. F1 and competitiveness goes in cycles - we might get a fight next year between three teams if BMW have anything to say about it, and maybe more than that in years to come if Renault can recover, and Red Bull can improve, and Honda remember what they're actually supposed to be doing, and Williams find a **** load of money somewhere. But right now it's just between two teams, and I'm sorry - folks on here can say what they like, but this is not vintage Formula One racing. It's not even close.

i think vettel would beat lewis given a equal car maybe even kubica too

I certainly think they'd given him a proper fight. Hey, if Max "Mmmmm.....spankings" Mosley gets his way and F1 becomes a spec racing series then you'll get to see that scenario.

Won't last long, because all the teams will get bored after two or three years and **** off elsewhere, but it'll be great racing for the short time it lasts!

Memphis, Wicksta and sunama (sorry guys, you were the three I could remember after 'several' pints of bitter) have all taken shots at me for it - ...

I've never taken shots at you for calling Hamilton, The Messiah. I actually do believe that if anyone can break MS's records, then its Hamilton. And if he does eventually do so, then you would actually be right in referring to him as The Messiah (of F1).

i doubt he will get near michaels records to be honest f1 is far too competitive now to let that happen

We wont know for sure, for at least a decade. My gut feeling is that providing he doesnt get involved in drink, drugs, the wrong company (which right now he is heading towards), or die/become disabled, then he has a chance. Only time will tell though.

I doubt it. Vettel won the last race because he was leading right from the front. We have seen Hamilton "race and overtake" other drivers in all conditions. Vettel - we havent seen this yet. He is good, no doubt and a while ago, I did say that it would be better for McLaren to have him as the No.2, in place of Heikki.

Kubica - I rate him extremely highly. He is super reliable. However, I rate Alonso and Hamilton higher.

was about as funny as saying f1 is too easy maybe you should chill out a little and not be so uptight?

the grid is closer than ever in recent years there is no certainly that mclaren will be up the front either so its not really wise to suggest the messiah is going to shatter records when is yet to lift a single title never mind 8

dont need a single spec series to be in equal cars but getting equal treatment at mclaren might be tough if lewis is there as alonso and now heikki is finding out

vettel is amazing in the rain see his drives in fuji last year and monaco this year he is by far the best in the wet which to me means he has it in the dry just not got the car to show it and when michael schumacher says he has it then i tend to agree also as i think he is by far a better judge than most

i doubt he would want to be no2 to lewis i am sure he has more ambition than that can see him leading ferrari in the near future and making sure lewis wins very little :)

I still say Hamilton was the best driver at Monaco and he was great at Spa - overtaking Kimi in conditions where most drivers could barely stay on the track, let alone overtake.

when michael schumacher says he has it then i tend to agree also

I can well imagine MS saying that Vettel is top notch. But I'm sure says the same about Hamilton and certainly says the same about Alonso - he daren't say anything derogatory about the guy who beat him to the title, 2yrs in row, before MS retired.

ffs guys

dont fill this thread with the same bickering that got the spa thread locked. Give it a rest already.

Why was that thread closed? It shouldnt have been. By closing it, all the Spa debate was liable to spill over into other threads. By keeping it open, those who wanted to go on debating (in circles) could do so and those who had enough, could unsubscribe.

Yeah, you're right. Going to duck out of this thread until qualifying, I think. Unless something particularly huge happens before Saturday.

Flibster - got the vids downloading, is this that Shell advert with the Tipo 500, 312 and 312B? Not seen it in ages, and don't think I ever saw a "Making of...." vid for it.

vettel coming through the field at monaco was a much better drive imo nevermind the traffic and the car disadvantage off course most focus is on lewis in the best car but he done what is expected really

i cant recall much ms praise for lewis to be fair vettel is pretty close to michael. would not say alonso beat him 2 years in a row as 2005 was not a race to the title for michael and had it not been for a blown engine in suzuka who knows michael had praised alonso since his minardi days seeing him test at fiorano so its nothing to do with who beat him really

i cant recall much ms praise for lewis

Probably because he believes that Hamilton will be the one who will take away all the records that MS wrote. ;)

to be fair vettel is pretty close to michael.

It makes sense. They are both German. I'm sure Hill would much rather talk up a Brit (Hamilton) than a German (Vettel).

I think it has everything to do with who beat him. If MS knows that he is the daddy in F1 and gets beat by another driver, 2yrs in a row, it would've hurt MS badly. In fact, Alonso perhaps made MS realise that it was time to quit.

In 2005, I must agree that Ferrari were in disarray, and Renault took full advantage, however in 2006, I believe it was a fair fight that Alonso won. He beat the "daddy".

Aww, diddums...

One week we have a whole furore because it's too easy to cut a chicane and now we've got complaints that it's too hard. Jeez, some folk are never pleased....

they are too steep tho... if they was big smooth kurbs it wouldnt be a issue, but these a big sharp things that are going to rip the bottom of cars appart.
